You may have heard the saying "no hoof, no horse" and how true that is! Horses spend most of their lives on their feet: walking, running, grazing...even sleeping! While it's a fact that horses in the wild live their entire life without any foot care, wild horses also wear their hooves differently in their daily search for food and shelter then a stabled horse carrying the weight of a rider.
Also, there is a marked difference between surviving and thriving. A horse may survive without routine foot care, but to thrive and live a long and happy life horses need the care that farriers provide. A horse with unhealthy, unbalanced, sore feet will be unhappy under saddle and will perform poorly. Having your horse trimmed or shod every 6 to 8 weeks will promote healthy hoof growth and hours of enjoyment for horse and rider. A healthy hoof makes a happy horse!
