Volo Farm Horsemanship Day Camp / Horse Camp in Westford, Massachusetts

Who can come to Volo Farm Camp?
Volo Farm Horsemanship Camp is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14. Campers do not need to have prior riding experience to participate. Camp is limited to 15 students per week.

What is the fee for camp?
The fee for Volo Farm Horsemanship Day Camp is $495 per week. Camp runs daily from 9am – 3:00pm. Before and after care is available for a fee of $20 per hour. Arrangements must be made prior to the start of camp for this service.

How often do students ride?
Each camper rides twice daily. In the morning, campers ride in either a private lesson or a group lesson. For their second ride, a fun activity on horseback is planned. Some of these activities include bare-back riding, mounted games, trail riding, or a practice ride on their favorite school horse.

What do campers do when not riding?
In addition to riding, campers learn how to care for their horse and their equipment.

At Volo Farm we feel learning horsemanship not only teaches students what is involved in caring for the animals, it also teaches them very important life skills. The details involved in caring for a horse helps children grow responsible and focused.
What kind of horses do campers ride?
The staff at Volo Farm has watched many young people grow and mature with the help of our generous and patient school horses. Our school horses range in size from small ponies to horses 16 hands. Our school horses are all experienced teachers who are safe and kind natured. Some of our school horses are seasoned show horses who have retired from showing. Others are veteran camp horses who have been teaching children to ride for many years.

What special equipment or clothing do campers need?
Students need an approved safety riding helmet and boots with a heel for camp. Campers should wear long pants and a shirt with a sleeve for riding. (Please, not crop tops or spaghetti straps). Clothing should fit well (not baggy) and shirts need to be tucked in when riding so that the teacher can see the student's posture. They also need to bring shorts in warmer weather for times when they are not mounted on their horse.

Does Volo Farm provide lunch?
We do not provide meals for campers. Students need to bring two snacks plus lunch and drinks. We do have a soda machine, water cooler and snack machine at the stable. Please remember that riding is a sport with many of the same physical demands as other sports. Students should be encouraged to drink lots of water during the day. They should not drink sugared beverages.
