Unicorn Ranch / Riding Instructor in Boulder, Colorado

Unicorn Ranch offers horsemanship, horse education, horse back riding lessons, summer camps and horse care camps at the Colorado Horse Rescue. Lois' teaches horse starting skills. We have a record of riding safety, caring for horses, and teaching our students about the whole horse. Our lesson program accepts beginners and returning riders, children and adults. We teach structured, progressive lessons, to ensure that our students learn. Also, we screen our horses carefully, some we own and others belong to the Colorado Horse Rescue. Each horse has specific tasks, and we include in our program horses that cannot be ridden but have other things to teach.
Horsemanship is included in all our teaching situations. Education classes are a class room and hands on situations, learning about daily and preventative care, ownership skills, and weather you want to own a horse or not. (We do not push our students to own. We neither lease nor sell horses.) Horseback riding lessons include time to groom and saddle your (our) horse, time to ride and time to put your (our) horse up. All this time is supervised to keep our students safe and allow us to teach horsemanship skills. Both English and Western styles of riding are taught. Summer camps (Mon-Thurs every week of the summer) offer riding lessons, activities with horses (bathing springs to mind), hands on horse care and daily chores. Horse care days allow us to teach children and teens the responsibilities of horse ownership—with out mom and dad having to buy a pony. Children are taught horse safty on the ground, basic groom skills, and help groom and care for the horses at the Rescue. We also perform barn tasks and other tasks (e.g. cleaning the barn junk out) for the Rescue. We are age appropriate with the skills we teach, a four year old will learn to brush, and ten year old will learn to brush and muck, a twelve year old will learn signs of illness in a horse. High school students learn basic ground work skills at our camps and horse care days. Horse starting skills lessons are for owners who want to train their own horse but need guidance and know how.

What sets us apart is not only our genuine care for and relationship with our horses but our experience, Lois with 35 years of teaching and Pam with ten. We know what we are doing.
