We're Jake and Theresa of Rancho de los Cielos, one of the premier US facilities for seeing, riding, and loving Mangalarga Marchador horses. We invite you to see, ride, lease, purchase or sponsor from among our US born and bred horses and the new babies we hope to welcome soon from newly imported stock (or their progeny) from Brazil.
Haven't heard of Mangalarga Marchadors? If you love riding, you owe it to yourself to ride Brazil's National Horse, a breed to excel at anything a horse can do, beginning with being the perfect companion, and extending to the sports that require precision, speed, agility, raw strength, and endurance, and doing it all with the majesty and beauty of Iberian horses. And THE BEST PART IS, THEY DO IT ALL IN WITH AN INCREDIBLY SMOOTH, EASY -TO-RIDE GAIT. Mangalarga Marchador horses do 4 beat gaits, the picada (lateral, slower) and the batida (diagonal, faster, more conducive to jumping), made incredibly smooth and stable by extended moments of triple hoof support and "never a hoof off the ground" timing. Mangalarga Marchadors gaits are subtle, uniquely accomodating (meaning you can change speeds and gears like riding a 10 speed racing bike!) between the individual horse and rider, absolutely natural, and absolutely conducive to performance. By performance, I mean your horse can stay in gait and still turn on a dime, jump obstacles, flash around barrels or through a serpentine, climb mountains, leap down canyon walls. No exaggeration...in Brazil, these horses follow dogs to chase down deer like foxhunting in Great Britain, only staged through the foothills of the Andes!) Our Mangalarga Marchador horses are Brazilian imports or their progeny, all inspected and registered in both the US and Brazil, all of them true to a heritage that blended a Portuguese emperors's personal warrior stallions with Criollo mares bred in Brazil descended from horses brought over by the Conquistadors. Mangalarga Marchadors are lean, mid-sized, horses with highly athletic and balanced physiques, sculptured faces, wise and intelligent eyes, and willing hearts. Besides being incredibly beautiful, they are beautifully sized and configured for those of us whose joints remember the last 50 years too well. Only just over 300 Mangalarga Marchadors are registered in the US, compared to over 400,000 in Brazil. Mangalarga Marchadors are Brazil's primary saddle horses, used for equine pursuits ranging from pushing cattle, to dancing dressage, to scoring in polo, to carrying little children on pilgrimages or old men on journeys across country. Mangalarga Marchadors hold the Guiness Worls Record for distance riding: 9000 miles across Brazil in 13 months on the same horses and every rider over 60 years old.
At Rancho de los Cielos, we are the 5th largest US breeder, but we own the horses who've accomplished the most in breed shows, in dressage, and long distance riding, and we're the only US breeders whose foundation stock included imported Brazilian champions, Ninja de Sao Joaquim (stallion) and Jaina do Passo Fino (mare). We have the bloodlines and we've produced the ones to watch: Aria de los Cielos, first Mangalarga Marchador to complete a 50 mile AERC endurance race and come in first in a 25 mile race, Allegria de los Cielos, who had more 25mile AERC races completed in 2016 than any other US Mangalarga Marchador horse and represented the AERC and Mangalarga Marchadors in the 2016 Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, and Tesoro de los Cielos, more miles completed in any single long distance ride (167/200 miles). All 3 of these horses have been shown in first level dressage. Plus, our Rio de los Cielos was reserve National Champion Stallion and our Allegria de los Cielos was National Champion Mare in 2014, the last year championships were held in the US.
WE'RE LOOKING TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT MANGALARGA MARCHADOR HORSES BORN AND BRED AT RANCHO DE LOS CIELOS.
WE'RE READY, RIGHT NOW, TO GET OUR MATURE BREEDING AND RIDING STOCK UNDER SADDLE WHERE PEOPLE CAN SEE THEM and we need your help.
DESIGNER FOALS AND YOUNGER STOCK: Since 2005, we've specialized in "DESIGNER FOALS" meaning you or we chose the parents from among our stock (or lease one of our mares to use with imported semen!) to create the perfect horse for you. Purchasing a designer foal from us can include the feed-lease of a trained Mangalarga Marchador riding horse and/or lessons riding a Mangalarga Marchador in gait if we raise and train your baby.
TRADITIONAL SALES: You can always purchase one of our horses outright, AND options include payment over time, and lease-option to buy.
SPONSORSHIP: If traditional sales were all that we offered, we'd miss out on the chance to match one of our undiscovered champions with a rider who could take one of our horses places and promote our ranch and our breed as we cannot. The right rider who comes to us with a PLAN that will get the limelight focused on a Rancho de los Cielos horse could ride away on one of our horses for little more than a promise and with our help subsidizing his or her dream. We'd especially like to see our horses out there in competitive trail riding events, distance riding, and gaited dressage. Which of our horses are available for this? Take a look at the pictures and find the one you were dreaming about.
SPONSOSHIP MEANS COLLABORATION: Our version of Sponshorhip extends to accepting deposits for future purchases which give you 1-2 years to complete a purchase while you use the opportunity to be our guests (up to 30 days in a year in our guest house), learning about the breed and your horse at your leisure and with our companionship and support. We welcome you into our family, teach you horsemanship, teach you to ride a Mangalarga Marchador like the Brazilians do, welcome your help and company at our shows and demonstrations (and our barbecues!).
See. Ride. Believe.
Rancho de los Cielos offers breed demonstrations, private and group tours and riding opportunities. We even have guest house accommodations right on the ranch for buyers to stay and learn about our horses. We want you to go home with what you came for. Come ride with us, and ride the wind!
