In March 2013, ten youth ages 12-18 will be presented with a unique and exclusive horsemanship experience unlike any other. In its first year of operation, Legacy Mustang Preservation has clearly established itself as a national leader in the gentling and training of captured wild horses. LMP is now the home of the Virginia Pryor Nine, captured members of the Pryor Mountain, Montana herd of the famous Cloud, Stallion of the Rockies. LMP is the only training facility in the East selected to work with these special horses and received more Pryor horses for training than any facility in the nation.

Beginning March 2nd, ten youth will be given the opportunity to supplement their previous or current equine experience in an academy setting, studying the core spirit of the horse in a natural setting under nationally recognized equine trainer and communicator, Certified Horse Trainer, ACTHA Champion, and Extreme Mustang Makeover Finalist Jamie Dodson, along with ACTHA medal winner and Extreme Mustang Makeover Veteran Christina Flint. The calm and less intrusive, yet more productive, approach undertaken by this duo earned them considerable national acclaim, resulting in the gentling and adoption of 50 mustangs since inception.

Those accepted into the academy program will learn the essence of what horsemanship truly means. He or she will learn an understanding of and respect for the horse in its natural environment to include herd dynamics, behavior patterns resulting from social status within the herd, the importance of equine social order, and how to use natural patterns of behavior to facilitate calmer and more efficient training results.

Equestrian and Adventure Day camps.

Our summer camp sessions run from 9am - 5pm Monday through Friday for kids ages 6-12. Each camp is a mix of horseback riding, art, cooking, horsemanship and outdoor adventures.

Sprouse's Corner Ranch camps focus on horse management, riding skills, and safety around horses. The campers will begin their day with feeding, brushing, saddling and riding lessons. They will then have the opportunity to bathe and care for their camp horse (our horse or yours!). After a snack and some fun in the water, campers will learn a variety of horse management skills including first aid, health care, hoof care, feeding, illness management and prevention. After lunch, the horses will be prepared for another riding lesson. In the Horsemanship I, II and Advanced camps, the day will be finished up with demonstrations, educational games, and riding skills practice. Cost of the camp includes snacks and a t-shirt. Our goal at Stone Bridge Farm is to offer our riders the best riding instruction, facilities and horses available in southwest Virginia -- and to do so in an environment that is fun, welcoming, and safe! In the last year, our high school and middle school riding teams have been among the most successful in the Mid-Atlantic states, and many of our show riders have earned local, state and national recognition.

Whether your child is just starting out as a rider, or wants to set and work towards competitive goals, we hope that he or she will join us for one or more weeks of riding, learning and fun this summer! Our day camp programs, for riders age 7 to 17, are growing and getting better every year -- some developments this year include:

* Camp programs will be run by Ariadne Paxton, who is both an elementary school teacher and a long-time horsewoman and instructor with a degree in Animal Science from Virginia Tech.
* Full Day and Half Day Sessions are available, as well as an Extended Day option, to accommodate your family's schedule.
* To insure that all riders get the most out of their camp experience, sessions are limited to 15 riders per week, and are grouped by riding level. Campers can sign up for Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced sessions. Please contact the Farm to find out which groups would be most suitable for your child.
* Campers can bring their own horse or use one of ours.
* Two weeks of IEA Team Training Sessions will be offered in July and August.
* Each full camp day includes a morning lesson and an afternoon lesson or "fun ride" -- mounted games, obstacle courses or trail ride -- as well as horsemanship activities.

Silver Eagle Stable hosts a variety of Horseback Riding Camps throughout the year. Children age 5 and up are welcome to attend. Unless otherwise noted on a specific camp, all skill levels are acceptable.

One-week, 1/2 day specialty programs. Specialties range from basic Recreational Riding weeks to upper level Dressage and Jumping weeks.

Ages 4-16 through the summer from June 20th through Aug 7th. ALL ages and abilities. We also offer a 3-day adult camp for over 21 year olds. Local Virgina wines and appetizers served folowing your lesson/clinic ride on all 3 nights. The day campers enjoy field trip to a race horse training center where they can watch horses swim! We have gret crafts and can rid in an indoor arena to stay out of the sun or rain. At the end of the week parents come and enjoy a horse show! They can see what the kids have learned. Heldergate Stables is offering our day camp for two different session options in July 2014!

Camp is from 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday, with a horse show and family picnic on Saturday! Early drop-off and late pick-up are available.

-For our younger or beginning participants, camp offers a fun, active alternative to ordinary childcare, and includes early drop-off and late-pick-up when needed. Besides foundation horseback riding skills, we also teach horsemanship and theory, basic nutrition and barn care, and a sense of initiative and cooperation. Students will bond with "their" horses throughout the week as they learn to ride and care for them, and demonstrate their skills in the horse show on Saturday.

They will also participate in games, arts and crafts, group sports and other activities.

-For our older or more advanced riders, camp offers a chance to have two lessons a day, sort out specific issues with your horse, work toward individual riding or competition goals, and have some fun all day while doing it! *Potential for off-farm schooling or day-trip, depending on rider enrollment.*

Owning a horse is not necessary; board for the week is available if you do!
