We are a small 10 acre farm with wood fencing and a 50 x 75 barn. We are located 5 minutes from Maple Lawn and less than 2 miles from Schooley Mill Equestrian Park. We are offering assisted self care boarding at $350 per a month

Full Care Board

Sturdy Stirrups is a quaint and small stable which takes pride in getting to know each horse in our care. We offer individual care plans for each horse and can accommodate special requests such as specific blanketing, administering various medications, etc. Our fencing is new and horse safe, plus the owner lives on-site and has view of each field. Herds are kept small and are rotated between pasture and dry lots. Our pastures are flat and open with access to shade at all times.

Field Board: This is the best choice for those who want their horse to have access to the outside as much as possible, but are also concerned about complete and adequate shelter. The barn has dividers put in place to ensure all horses can use it, even if they are submissive. 275.00/month (includes hay)

Stall Board: Horses are individually lead in and out of 12x12 stalls. We provide a shade lot during hot days, and an open pasture for nights. They are brought in and out for feeding. Owner may request the horse be kept on a specific turn out schedule or in for specific events. Once winter comes, horses are primarily kept in at night, and out during the day. 350.00/month (includes hay)

The farm is less than 1 mile away from Walmart Shopping Center, 3 miles away from Bowie Town Center, less than 20 minutes driving distance to Annapolis, about 30 minutes to Fort Meade, less than 40 minutes driving distance to Washington DC and about 45 minutes to Baltimore. You can also take New Carrollton Amtrak, or Green Belt metro station to Washington DC or many other places. Merkel Farm is nestled between Bowie State University and the Patuxent Wildlife Preserve in Bowie, MD and is within easy reach from the Washington D.C., Annapolis and Baltimore metro areas. We have miles of trails surrounding the property. We also have a lighted indoor and outdoor ring which allows for boarders and lesson students to ride year round. We have two barns and two separately fenced fields for turnout. The outdoor and indoor rings are dragged throughout the year to maintain optimal footing for horses.
