Russell Ridge was a carefully selected farm. William spent several years working at different facilities that did not meet his standards for quality. Some of the farms had inadequate turn out, turnout that lacked grass or forage, or no turnout at all, rings that were too small or had poor footing, and had barns that were poorly lit or lacked space and functionality; all of which he considered to be extremely basic and important factors for a farm. He began searching for a location that had the potential to have all the amenities he was looking for. In 2004, he found it. Named for the ridge that runs along the side of where the ring now sits, Russell Ridge had it all. An enormous open field that could be split multiple times for huge turnout fields, and room on top of the ridge for a big barn and ring with an excellent view of the pastures. Back then there wasn’t any kind of driveway and the top of the ridge was an extremely uneven pine forest, but William had a vision, and he spent the next seven years bringing it to life. We are a small barn that incorporates the Paddock Paradise method for horse boarding. If you aren't familiar with this method, please take a peek at our website for all the details. A quick overview: we want to provide horses with three fundamental items - Friends - Forage - Freedom. We have a "track" for the horses that is over a mile long. Having a narrower long path encourages the horses to move much more during the day. They have access to a covered 100 x 200 arena for shade and rolling, plus other shade structures, hay stations, and obstacles. We have 3 large pastures that we can use for a variety of reasons. We do 24/7 turnout because this is what is best for the majority of horses. but we do have 2 large 16x12 stalls that can be used by any horses if needed for medical reasons, or any other short term needs.

We provide bermuda hay 24/7 in slow feed hay nets as we want most of their calories to come from hay as opposed to green grasses. Included is a once a day feeding of timothy pellets (as base) with Vermont Blend Trace Minerals and salt. We are happy to feed other food and supplements if provided by the owner. We have a mixed herd of geldings and mares and take the appropriate time to introduce all the new members of the herd. We don't allow horses to have rear shoes so we can minimize any risk of injuries. We discourage front shoes only because of our use of slow feed hay nets.

Hot/cold wash stall. Small tack room with microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker and clean bathroom. Trailer parking available.

Barn is a very quiet friendly environment. We do not live on the property but have a neighbor that watches for anything unusual when we are not there and we have webcams that give me 24/7 access to view the property.

We charge $575 for one horses or $525/horse in families with multiple horses. We do allow, and love, people to help out around the barn to earn discounts off of the monthly board rate.... See More

The Powder Forest is a small training facility, offering full service board limited to students. Full board includes complete stall care, 24/7 turnout with stall access, three times daily feed, and handling for veterinarian and farrier. Lessons or a limited training program is required.
