At SMR Equestrian, we believe that horsemanship starts on the ground and the most successful riders are horsewomen and men first. Riders are taught proper care for the elite equine athlete and encouraged to take an active role in training and caring for their horses. Qualified riders are encouraged to participate in our working student program, which allows riders to help in the barn and hone their skills exercising and schooling a variety of SMR horses.

Emphasis is placed on having a correct and effective rider position as “form follows function”. Flatwork and position are honed in lessons and riders benefit from Sarah’s background in Psychology as they learn the necessary mental discipline and focus to reach the highest levels of riding and competition.

We combine our lessons with articles, videos (both educational and of oneself) and demonstration rides in order to provide a well-rounded learning experience that is suitable for all learning types. You can call or email us at We are located just 10 west of Grand Rapids, 2 miles off from I-196 west going toward Muskegon, in Marne which is right near Coopersville. We are a small horse boarding stable with personal attention to every horse and even work with babies. Your horse can have a safe rubber matted stall at night and during threatening weather. Indoor board is $375.00 per month. In the summer there are six different pastures for daily turnout. Horses are turned out, mares with mare and geldings with geldings.. They have hay, grass and water available to them. We do your supplements at their night time feeding. We have our horses on a rotational worming schedule. We have a moderate sized indoor arena for riding in inclement weather and a large out door arena for the summer time riding. We tack up horses in their individual stalls and have areas for your tack to be on site. We have a warm/cold wash area for washing your horses or taking care of any injuries. We are a new, small family boarding facility catering to retirement horses and casual riding. There are 13 rolling pastured acres, beautiful airy barn, 6 10X12 matted stalls (although in good weather horses will be outside most of the time), automatic waterers, heated tack room, wash stall with hot water, a large outdoor arena, run-ins and premium hay/ feed.
