A half-day program, running from noon to 5 pm, Monday-Friday, for kids from 5 to 15 (some exceptions may be made). A super fun filled, informative and inspiring combination of balance seat horseback riding lessons & clothing design/sewing class. Outdoor morning yoga 3x a week, ceramics & African dance, plus demonstrations from professionals on horsemanship and related topics.

Each session includes a field trip to the exciting HITS (Horse Shows in the Sun) showground and a fabric buying trip for design projects, all ending in an exciting BBQ dinner party with horse presentation and fashion show for parents and friends.

Set on 87 acres of serene meadows and Catskill mountain land, just 4 miles from the center of Woodstock, NY., Shady Farm is a peaceful, private horse farm with streams, hammocks, tire swing, and plenty of wooded mountainside to satisfy the nature lover in anyone.

Your child, 5 to 16/17 yrs old, will have daily, one on one horseback riding lesson(s), engage in horse care activities while learning horsemanship skills, and plenty of time to just chill out with fellow campers & the friendly horses and ponies at the farm. In addition, they will have daily lectures and practical work on approaching clothing design as an art form and skill. Design elements, sketching, draping, the basics of sewing by hand and machine, measuring, fitting, pattern development, cutting, sewing and finishing an original design are all part of this engaging program, unleashing each student's creative potential and opening the door to the exciting possibilities of this useful and fulfilling skill.

Hands on learning and lots of fun! Horse riding lessons in our indoor arena out of the sun on hot days, our large outdoor arena with mountain views, our wood fenced grass fields or around the farm for a safe trail ride. Professional, seasoned trainers teach the lessons with assistance from several high school aged advanced riders acting as counselours. Our 12 safe and wonderful lesson horses accomodate beginners as well as more advanced students ages 5-12. Lessons are split-up according to age and ability level. We play games, go bareback and practice horse shows and serious riding as well. We can take care of any fear issues or new riders with our patience and understanding. In addition to riding our kids learn all aspects of horsemanship and horse related skils. Plus we play on the trampoline, jungle gym, learn arts and crafts, we play games and have "horseless horse shows" and swim on hot days. It's loads of fun for horse crazy kids!... See More
