I am a NY trainer looking to relocate to PA . My two horses are in Reading, I have 35 plus years experience, have directed programs and competed in both dressage and jumpers. I am trained to fourth level, I work with beginner thru medal and Maclay, have a good business, but found I was missing my boys way too much and LOVED PA! You may friend me on facebook for pics... I will try and put a resume into this space: RESUME - SALLY HOUGHTON
1972 - Trainer for the original owner of Stonyhill Stables, Harry Hutzler. Harry first operated from St. James before moving to Northport. I worked for him for a few years and rode anything and everything that came off the sale truck. I was 17 when I started. Not long after the move to Northport, Stonyhill was purchased by Frank Benedetto, whose son, James is now the current owner. I taught all levels of equitation, especially the Medal and Maclay divisions and was the Director of Training at the school. I had a very successful team of competitors, all the horses were made by me, no six figure horses.
During this time I continued my riding education with George Morris and Gunner Ostergaard. I competed in the Intermediate jumper division up to and including second level dressage. I am trained to fourth.
I left Stonyhill in order to pursue a broader experience of the business, which I did as a free lancer. Teaching at farms such as Gold Coast Equestrian Center, Knoll Farms, Private homes from Old Westbury to the Stonybrook, ByWay Farms, Majestic Farms ( Hollandia), Islandia Farms, Caumsett Equestrian Center. Quite honestly, I cant remember all of them. This was during the late 70's and 80's.
I got married and so for a time continued competing, but teaching only lightly.
In 1989 I was diagnosed with Lyme disease. I was unable to do anything for several years. That was followed by the death of my husband.
Raising a little girl alone, required that I return to work, and my work of course was the horse business. I discovered that during my time away, things had changed quite drastically. However, I jumped back into free lancing, working at Stanhope and then Parkview. I have continued to train green, young or poorly trained horses. I am able to put the right horse with the right rider and make a winning team. I am familiar with several breeds and not the least of these, the wonderful thoroughbred.
So, while I am employed, I am once again looking to expand. I can teach, ride, design a successful and profitable riding program and create sale horses that people will want to buy. I am competent in a managerial position.
This is an informal resume, and I respect you for at least asking for one! From what I see these days, anyone can walk up a driveway with a horsemanship ld 101 speech and be hired.
The last time I handed in a resume, one of the trainers made sure it got buried behind the desk. I am still to date, the only one who even had one.
I have no problem with taking beginners, and no interest in soliciting students away from other trainers. In fact I would be happy to work with any trainers who would like to know more, as well as to teach and ride better. I am also available as a clinician in areas of beginners, intermediate, advanced equitation, hunter and jumpers as well as beginner through 4th lever dressage riders. Problem horses, are no problem.
If you would like to friend me on face book I would be happy to accept you and you may see some current pictures of myself riding my thoroughbred, or some of my students.
I look forward to meeting you in the future.

Unfortunately, since I have been around awhile, a lot of trainers or judges that I worked beside like Robert Hoskins, Hugh J.B. Cassidy , Penney Rosenthal are no longer with us. Those were good days for this business.... See More
