Nestled in a historic citrus Orchard, Friends Stable is a peaceful setting to enjoy riding and spending time with your horse. We offer a variety of boarding options. 24x24 paddocks with roof shelters, 24x 24 paddocks with 3 sided shelters. 24 x32 paddocks with either roof shelters or three sided shelters. 12x12 box stalls with various sized runs 12 x24 box stalls with various sized runs. Larger paddocks for group board are also available. Pens/ Stalls are cleaned daily. Horses are fed 2 times per day with lunch available. Blanketing and Supplementing is available upon request. We offer an olympic sized dressage arena with sand/nike footing. We have 2 other arenas available for both riding and turnout. We offer a separate turn out paddock, along with a 60' round pen. We offer a variety of boarding options including large half covered pipe stalls & permanent inside and outdoor stalls. Full training, lessons, and care packages can be added as well. Bay Ridge Farm, a business formed by Jeff Katz and Bud Wolf, over 30 years ago, has turned out top horses and riders every year. The barn's atmosphere is positive and personal, and is supportive of individuals' goals and interests in all aspects of show horsemanship. Bay Ridge prides itself on teaching and being successful showing with young children in the Short Stirrup division, to Grand Prix amateurs and professionals.

Bay Ridge has a rigorous "care" program for each horse in the barn. Our grooms are selected with great care, and are reviewed and monitored on a daily basis. We have a nutrition program designed to meet the needs of each horse we care for, and review our horses' health and well-being every day. Owners' preferences in feed and supplements are carefully discussed and changed as horses' work and programs change. We have very close relationships with our veterinarians and our farrier, and make sure that communications are open between them.

THE FACILITY

The location is stunning. It includes a breathtaking view of the Upper Ojai Valley and is surrounded by natural Southern California habitat. The Ranch is very quiet with a select clientele and personalized service. Amenities include a variety of sheltered paddocks, wash racks, lighted sand ring, round pen, dressage ring, stadium jumps, cross country jumps, and gallop track. There are short local trails as well as access to the Los Padres National Forest trail system. We are the only facility in the area to have such a variety of schooling options.

We live on the ranch and directly care for the horses. You are assured that your animals will receive the best personal care!

OUR GOAL

Our goal is to provide fun and education on horseback for people interested in pursuing equestrian sports.

Lessons include all aspects of basic horsemanship, safety, husbandry, and riding skills as well as competitve skills for horses and riders. Training can be starting horses under saddle as well as schooling on advanced skills.

We are approved and provide services for the United States Pony Clubs, Boy Scouts of America, and Girl Scouts of the United States of America

OUR SPORT

We specialize in English riding, especially dressage and jumping required for horse trials and three day events. A horse trial is a lower form of the three day event as seen in the Olympic Games. It consists of a dressage test, cross country jumping test, and stadium jumping test. Dressage is riding on the flat; demonstrating obedience, agility, flexibility, balance, and lightness. Cross country jumping tests boldness, power, agility, and stamina through negotiating solid obstacles over difficult terrain at speed. Stadium jumping demonstrates obedience, power, and flexibility when jumping a colorful course in an arena setting. Eventing is a true complete test for horse and rider.

Peppercorn was started in 1986. Greg Coulson and Lauren Royce have strived to make the ranch a family friendly place for equestrian sport and recreation. Our 24 acre horse boarding ranch opens up to the Ojai Conservancy trails and offers access to round pens, wash rack, large arena and access to special clinics during our WMT internship, horsemanship lessons and educational experiences about wild mustang horses. Sarah Durrer has been competing and riding with various hunter/jumper/eq trainers since 1998. Such trainers include Cyndi Merritt of Baycrest Farms, Halli Bidwell of Brenric Stables and trainer of the Allegheny College Equestrian team. Durrer has also ridden with clinicians: Bernie Traurig, Rob Gage, Will Simpson and more. Durrer also trains with Jane Shaw of Thumbs Up Riding. Her passion lies in the jumper ring but she also excels at equitation and has recently delved more into the hunter ring successfully. Durrer was also successful on the Allegheny College Equestrian team, placing 1st in her region as the Open Rider Champion aka Regional Cacchione Cup Champion which earned her a spot to compete at the 2014 IHSA Nationals in the Cacchione Cup class.
