New students come to us quite sure of the discipline they wish to learn; English or Western, dressage, gymkhana, jumping or trail riding. Our philosophy is "Learn to ride, before you decide" we teach you to ride a horse first before you decide on your specialty! Our recipe for successful horse education is simple: start with common sense, awareness, respect, consistency and humor. Slowly add some confidence, muscle, balance, and a sense of adventure. Often times you'll see students go 'round and 'round in an arena. We use all 8 acres of the property including the arena, learning through games, drill routines, trail obstacles and friendly competitions both bare back and saddled. Alicia Swinton, instructor/trainer of SRS specializes in traditional European english style riding, including 3-day eventing, dressage and jumpers. With over 20 years experience from some of California's top trainers, and extensive education in all aspects of the equine world. English style riding offered for all levels, beginner through advanced. For the Western rider, we offer lessons for levels; beginner through intermediate. Lessons are offered in two styles: group lessons, (composed of 2-4 riders and properly matched depending on skill level and age) . Or choose one of our famous one on one private lessons, available in 30 minute, 45 minute, or 1 hour time blocks.

SRS has successfully trained many students and horses. From green horses to problem horses, I can accommodate any of your needs. Our horses are always trained with a natural horsemanship techniques that work with the horses mind and instincts to accomplish your goals and needs. Not with methods of abuse and force. School horses available AND travel to your horse and barn available as well. Our barn, which is conveniently located just 2 miles off the Hwy 99, and only 20 minutes from downtown Sacramento.

Gateway Farm is primarily a Dressage and Eventing barn although we welcome all riding disciplines at our facility. Here at Hard Knox Horse Academy, we offer horse boarding, training, starting and conditioning of almost any discipline. We also have available, after school programs with lesson curriculum, as well as horse day camps, two day camps and summer horse camps. Personally I pride myself on having been taught top to bottom, from cleaning stalls and horse& barn safety to grooming, saddling and unsaddling to arena&rail etiquette when riding with others. I'm currently taking on NEW clients in the gold country area. I offer lessons, horsemanship under saddle and on the flat, training, starting, ground training, and handler/owner/rider horsemanship training clinics as well as exercising, and equine management. Prices range from $10-$40 depending on the service and I offer discounts or group lessons and boarding barns! I am a mobile trainer but am working on getting our insurance set up for our home farm to start taking on, on site clients as well!

Tons of refrences avalible! Experienced in english, western, Arab/Quarter halter, combined training, pleasure, equitation, and hunters. Trained and train with many well known local people. I offer a unique approach with students focusing on balance, communication, light and confident riding, in a stress free manner. My training program is very simular, I focus on the horse and owner/handler/rider as a team and while I am working with the horse often times 101 I ALWAYS include a short lesson at the end where the owner/handler/trainer is able to learn my meathods inabling a better relationship between them and the horse. All throught the training sessions I take the time to carefully explain why I'm doing what I am and how it's effecting the horse. I use a method of my own and a blended method of regular and natural horsemanship.
