Our goal is to develop a passion for horses in each student. Canopy Oak Trails offers horseback riding
instruction for all levels of riders, from beginner to advanced, western or English. We are fortunate to have several excellent riding instructors, who love teaching beginners & kids. They also teach refresher lessons for those that haven’t ridden in many years.
They can nurture those that may have had bad experiences & wish to regain their confidence in a secure, safe environment. Lessons are available for advanced riders in jumping, dressage & eventing.

We have a 50’ wooden round pen, an arena with great footing & jumps, dressage letters, barrels for barrel racing & an agility course. There are also excellent trails -- lot's of them to enjoy, for those that have the skills to be safe on the trails.

We have many Western & English bridles/saddles of various sizes available for your use, as well as helmets, crops, saddlebags, etc.

Group lessons (usually 2 or 3 students) are $55, for one hour. Private lessons are $55 for a half hour lesson and $90 for a full hour lesson. Once proficient with grooming & tacking, students can arrive half an hour early to groom/tack/warm up before the lesson (and cool down untack, after the lesson is over).

Hello! I’m Desiree. I’m a professional equestrian of over 35 years; a USDF and USCTA Bronze Medalist; a Certified Professional Life Coach & Performance Mastery Specialist; a mother, military spouse, and woman of faith.

At PLEM we only have one or two spots available to a child or adult with previous or current riding experience and if they are interested in showing in local (inexpensive) shows in our area it is a plus! Our riding lessons include English on the flat and hunter/jumper. This includes teaching proper horse handling, grooming, tacking, barn maintenance, equine anatomy and vocabulary, as well as equine vet and health care. Teaching proper horsemanship not only prepares our students for horse ownership, but also teaches the life lessons of hard work, responsibility and the importance of caring for animals. We train riders and horses to work together so they have fun and are safe. Fun and Safety are our goals. We also have several lease or partial lease options available depending on experience and riding preference.

We strongly believe in teaching our students how to safely, effectively, and clearly communicate with their horses in the saddle and on the ground, and to take responsibility for the horses they ride, treating them with kindness, consideration, and respect.

Lessons include instruction on grooming, tacking-up, horse care and management. We also have a under cover arena so weather does not "normally" affect the lesson schedule, and it helps from the hot summer heat to keep us cool and on rainy days.

In the saddle, students focus on developing balance and using their weight ("seat") to communicate with the horse. Students use the escalation of aids to obtain the softest response from their horse with the least amount of pressure.
