We've been teaching lessons right here for over 30 years. Located just minutes from Rochester, Scottsville village. We offer Western riding with a focus on equitation (how you sit on a horse) and horsemanship.
We also specialize in beginner riders, but we also teach many more experienced riders as well.

Chasing Laurels enjoys providing a variety of programs for children, teens, and adults. There are riding lessons, day-camps, Birthday parties, unicorn parties, public & private school visits, trail rides, camp-outs with horses, hang outs at the barn, Girl Scout Badge Clinics, boarding for ponies & horses, volunteering opportunities and more.

The lessons last one hour. They include grooming, tacking, and riding. We teach both the English and Western disciplines. Along with some gaming. We have Jumps, poles, barrels, trail equipment, and more on site. We focus on safety, center of balance, and knowledge, while having fun on horseback. All lessons are customized to the individual(s) with a general focus on establishing the rider/horse bond, harmony, developing centered riding skills, care of the horse, and following good safe horsemanship standards. We also assist riders with overcoming fears.

The day camps are coordinated during Des Moines Public School breaks. There is a 1-3 day camp during spring break, a 1 week camp in June, a 1 week camp in July, 2 weeks in August, and then 1-3 day camp during winter break. All the day camps start at 9AM and go till 5PM.

Quite often we also camp out with the horses during spring break and again the last weekend of October. Camp outs include- the horses /tack, 2 days of trail riding, meals, wood for the fire, entertainment in the evening, etc… There are also options for day time riding without the overnight(s).

Hang outs at the barn are from 11AM-5PM when scheduled. The hang out is supervised but, unstructured. Children often groom and ride the lesson horses, play horse board games, socialize, chill out, etc… We have had people come to the barn to do nothing more than homework or read books, while sitting on a horse.

We also allow volunteering. This usually begins at 13. However, we do occasionally make exceptions based on knowledge, safety, focus, and ability.

Chasing laurels offers a full range of horse boarding, exercising, training, lessons, and more. We cater to our clients. Our monthly fee includes- regular worming, holding for the vet and farrier, and more. If you are unable to come out regularly, your horse will be cared for as our own and we can communicate regularly.

We offer saddle seat riding & driving lessons with American Saddlebreds & Hackney Ponies. We are a full service horse training, sales, and riding lesson barn. Our goal is to develop a passion for horses in each student. Our lesson program is tailored to prepare riders to be successful in horse show environments as well as overall horsemanship & equitation skills. We provide introductory horse showing opportunities to young riders in our lesson program and high level showing to those that own their own horse. I give western horse riding lessons for all ages (Kids & Adults). Located in Mansfield, TX near Kennedale. I have been giving lessons for over 20 years and currently compete in barrel racing and train barrel horses. I help beginners along with intermediate or advanced level riders. I have helped many high school students in their rodeo events. I have horses you can use for lessons or you can bring your own. My lessons are 1 hour long and are all private lessons unless you have a friend or family member that is wanting to ride at the same time. There are several reasons why riding a horse can be a beneficial and enjoyable activity: Physical fitness, mental well-being, Improve coordination & balance, Building confidence, Building relationships, Nature immersion, and skill development are just to name a few.

Coach Jeni Platt grew up on horseback on her family farm in Central Virginia where she participated in many equestrian activities. Jeni holds a BA in Psychology and a QMHP certificate in Virginia. She is also a certified Yoga Instructor and B4C Social Emotional Learning Facilitator. At SCS, she is the Operations Manager, Lead Horsemanship Coach, and Equine Specialist.

In our lesson program, students learn about horse behavior, care, grooming, and basic riding skills! We teach "horsemanship style" with an emphasis on safety and self awareness covering various topics, including horse caretaking, handling, and knowledge. There is riding of course but it is not our sole focus. We are always happy to work with any experience level and have fun!

SCS is inspiring the next generation of thinkers and doers through hands-on adventures! All activities are designed to foster critical thinking, socioemotional development, confidence, and teamwork. Classes are taught by a team of instructors with skills including groundwork, riding English and Western, games, confidence building, and more.

Youth ages 5 and up may join us for ninety-minute horsemanship lesson blocks that include both ground and riding instruction. We teach safety, groundwork, equine care and knowledge, equipment maintenance, and horseback riding. All classes are taught with an SEL focused approach and foster personal development. SCS Equestrian Team tryouts are open to anyone attending horsemanship classes weekly. At PLEM we only have one or two spots available to a child or adult with previous or current riding experience and if they are interested in showing in local (inexpensive) shows in our area it is a plus! Our riding lessons include English on the flat and hunter/jumper. This includes teaching proper horse handling, grooming, tacking, barn maintenance, equine anatomy and vocabulary, as well as equine vet and health care. Teaching proper horsemanship not only prepares our students for horse ownership, but also teaches the life lessons of hard work, responsibility and the importance of caring for animals. We train riders and horses to work together so they have fun and are safe. Fun and Safety are our goals. We also have several lease or partial lease options available depending on experience and riding preference.

We strongly believe in teaching our students how to safely, effectively, and clearly communicate with their horses in the saddle and on the ground, and to take responsibility for the horses they ride, treating them with kindness, consideration, and respect.

Lessons include instruction on grooming, tacking-up, horse care and management. We also have a under cover arena so weather does not "normally" affect the lesson schedule, and it helps from the hot summer heat to keep us cool and on rainy days.

In the saddle, students focus on developing balance and using their weight ("seat") to communicate with the horse. Students use the escalation of aids to obtain the softest response from their horse with the least amount of pressure. We are a english Saddleseat lesson program that specializes in working with riders of all ages and levels utilizing American Saddlebred Horses as well as other breeds. We use a variety of teaching techniques geared to helping riders meet their goals for themselves.
