Canopy Oak Trails offers horseback riding
instruction for all levels of riders, from beginner to advanced, western or English. We are fortunate to have several excellent riding instructors, who love teaching beginners & kids. They also teach refresher lessons for those that haven’t ridden in many years.
They can nurture those that may have had bad experiences & wish to regain their confidence in a secure, safe environment. Lessons are available for advanced riders in jumping, dressage & eventing.

We have a 50’ wooden round pen, an arena with great footing & jumps, dressage letters, barrels for barrel racing & an agility course. There are also excellent trails -- lot's of them to enjoy, for those that have the skills to be safe on the trails.

We have many Western & English bridles/saddles of various sizes available for your use, as well as helmets, crops, saddlebags, etc.

Private lessons are $55, semi-private (2 riders) lessons are $45/rider & group lessons are $35/ rider. All lessons are 1 hour long. Once proficient with grooming & tacking, students can arrive half an hour early to do so before the lesson.

Studied Dressage, trained hunters and has taken clinics with Judy Richter (H/J trainer and "R" judge) , Carol Maloney (H/J trainer and "R" judge), and Hanz Renz (3-Day Olympic Swiss Team Coach) makes her a well-rounded instructor. Whitney has a background in Hunter/Jumper/English Equitation/Basic Dressage and has been Horse Show Judge at rated shows in NY, NJ and PA.

In addition, as a junior rider, Debbie was selected to compete in the Dressage Junior Olympics. Debbie has also managed several large well known show barns (with up to 80 horses) in Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Kentucky. Debbie also has years of experience working with Thoroughbreds (on and off) tracks including Churchhill Downs. Debbie also has several years experience helping veterinarians in New Jersey and Pennsylvania including those associcated with University of Pennsylvania's New Bolten Center. Debbie has judged Local horse shows in Florida and with the Alabama Hunter Jumper Association. Debbie has a Bachelor's degree in both English/Communication and Political Science.

Debbie has a great passion and live for all animals and loves to teach children and adults to ride to their fullest potential with their horses and ponies. Not only does she teach them to ride well, but desires to educate them to understand, feel and think for themselves to become truly effective riders and to develop a winner mentality…that in turn can positively influence and correctly train their horses. DHEC's lesson program is world class. Our philosophy is to provide quality instruction by an experienced trainer with a focus on safety, horsemanship and fun. We offer lessons 6 days a week for both boarders and non-boarders alike. The first lesson will include an evaluation of the rider's level of experience and skill. After this lesson, we will place you into a private lesson or group lesson where you will ride with other students at a similar skill level.

We offer dressage and show jumping lessons plus have a 5-acre cross-country schooling field for eventing. We go to both h/j and eventing shows on a regular basis. Some of the local shows we attend are MSC, POP, Grand Oaks, Majestic Oaks, 3 Lakes, Sweet Dixie South, Barnstaple and Rocking Horse . We also attend rated dressage shows and eventing horse trials throughout Florida and the Southeast.

Specializing in those difficult OTTB's or the well-bred WB's, (we don't breed discriminate here, so bring it on!) From fresh off-the-track to bringing back from rehab or years spent in the pasture, our quality training at DHEC will show you the horse you were meant to ride! All horses and their owners become family at Dream Horse Equestrian Center, and we look forward to meeting you and your 4-legged partner, and strive to help you reach your goals!

For the beginner, DHEC teaches how to tack up and basic horse care and grooming. We believe that taking care of your horse is an important part of the lesson program. Caring for your horse before and after each lesson makes each rider feel more comfortable around horses, teaches responsibility and allows the rider to feel closer to their mount. We start at the very beginning teaching balance as a number one priority.

For the more advanced riders, we offer an extensive lesson program focusing on safety and horsemanship so you can move up to that next level. The program features many school horses, group instruction, and frequent participation in local shows. DHEC provides additional services for the equestrian community, including offering horses both for sale and for lease.

Because the safety of our riders is extremely important, ALL riders must wear a helmet. We provide helmets for riders who do not have their own. Please wear long pants or breeches (jeans are ok). Paddock boots are ideal or a hard-soled boot with a small heel is acceptable (no tennis shoes).
