We are a full service training facility located in beautiful Butte Valley, CA. We offer in-house lessons on your horse or ours, with the option of working in our covered arena, round pen, obstacle course or out on the trail. We also are willing to travel to appointments up to an hour away. Additionally, we do accept a limited number of horses for training - specializing with colt starting, troubled horses/behavioral issues, tune-ups or discipline specific training in select disciplines. New Zealander Marguerite Barrier works with all skill levels, from beginning through advanced, and will take all ages of riders, from four year olds through adult. Marguerite specializes in introducing mature adults with no riding experience to horsemanship in an organized and safe fashion. She welcomes any student who demonstrates a commitment to excellence in the hunter/jumper and general equitation disciplines.

Marguerite offers training and lessons on a beautiful 20 acre ranch in Briones, California, just minutes from Highways 24 and 80 in the Bay Area.

The facility offers

* a large outdoor jumping arena,
* indoor arena,
* round pen,
* turn-out pasture for daily turn-outs,
* stalls with runs, and
* box stalls.

Lesson horses available for all skill levels. Horses are also available for sale or lease.

Training is $350 per month, which includes lessons; horse board is $300 per month in pasture, stalls are $500 - $600 per month. If your horse is not in training, group lessons are $50 per hour; private lessons are $50 per half hour, $100 per hour.

I have been training horses for over 30 years, teaching and giving riding instruction to children and adults all along the way.
Showed in class "A" Arabian show circuit having Championships in English and Western Pleasure, Park Horse, Snaffle Bit Futurity, Native Costume and Halter. Managed ranches starting from 20 horses and building them up to 250 horses.
I competed in the Wild Mustang Challenge at Cal Expo and placed 7th, having a great go in the finals.

I truly believe that you have to look at the horse – human relationship as a whole picture to find out what is and is not working and once behavior patterns in the horse – human relationship - whether physical or emotional are identified I can then establish a plan to change these behaviors and develop a positive, healthy and fulfilling relationship for both horse and human.

Foundation before specialization. Relationship based Horsemanship

Instructing horse enthusiasts to become conscientious thoughtful horse owners.
Teaching from the beginning. Safety, how horses think and what are they feeling is SUPER important to me. I want to help my students create a calm responsive partner in their horse in what ever discipline they choose.
Keeping the horse's mind and body relaxed is a high priority for me… not to say I won’t add pressure… I will… I just want to present it in a way not to overwhelm and blow up either the horse or student.
Keeping all that in mind this is what I go over in the beginner lessons:
Approaching horses, haltering , leading, grooming, minor vet care, health, nutrition, saddling, bridling, rein handling,
Leg cues, balance and equitation. I have access to arena and trails.
Students are started with a series of undetermined lessons on the ground first and foremost. As a student progresses in their understanding and response time they are moved into mounted education.

I also offer problem solving, trailer loading and obstacle clinics.

Maxi Sulamith Moon is a former german FEI rider and has been producing and training several horses for artistic shows aswell for competitions. Over the last 10 years she has been the artistic creator for several horseshow events including the International Show jumping event opening in Brussels and several other shows across Europe and for the Theatre Equestre de Wattrelos.
The lessons are based on working on the connection between horse and rider and improve half pass, extended trot, flying changes, piaffe and passage.
