I'm currently taking on NEW clients in the gold country area. I offer lessons, horsemanship under saddle and on the flat, training, starting, ground training, and handler/owner/rider horsemanship training clinics as well as exercising, and equine management. Prices range from $10-$40 depending on the service and I offer discounts or group lessons and boarding barns! I am a mobile trainer but am working on getting our insurance set up for our home farm to start taking on, on site clients as well!

I offer a unique approach with students focusing on balance, communication, light and confident riding, in a stress free manner. My training program is very simular, I focus on the horse and owner/handler/rider as a team and while I am working with the horse often times 101 I ALWAYS include a short lesson at the end where the owner/handler/trainer is able to learn my meathods inabling a better relationship between them and the horse. All throught the training sessions I take the time to carefully explain why I'm doing what I am and how it's effecting the horse. I use a method of my own and a blended method of regular and natural horsemanship.

In the picturesque countryside just south of Sacramento, California, at the end of a long driveway lined by overhanging trees you will find Hickerson Arabians. Sitting on 8.5 acres of beautiful land, you will arrive and first see both young and retired horses in pasture where they spend their time playing and enjoying the breeze and shade. The show barn and indoor arena sit at the back of the property where the show horses have a view of the pond from their spacious 12×12 stalls. With Todd’s home situated in the center of the property, the horses have the 24/7 care and attention they deserve.

Todd Hickerson began his journey with Arabians when he was just five years old. He had a Purebred Arabian, Trinity Dawn, that he rode Endurance with. When he was just eight, they completed their first 50 mile ride and came in 2nd out of 80 riders. At twelve, they rode in the Tevis Cup. The Tevis Cup was started in 1955, it is the oldest modern day endurance ride that has been the inspiration and model for the most challenging endurance rides worldwide. Each rider who completes the 100 mile course from Tahoe to Auburn within the 24 hour limit and whose mount is judged fit to continue is awarded the coveted silver Completion Award Buckle. The Tevis Cup trophy is awarded to the person who completes the 100-Mile One-Day course in the shortest amount of time and whose horse is in sound condition and fit to continue. Todd was the youngest to complete the Tevis Cup, until just a few years ago!

Todd is a nationally recognized and respected Arabian and Half-Arabian horse trainer who has trained, shown, bred, bought, sold and marketed hundreds of Arabian and Half-Arabian horses. He has produced U.S. and Canadian National Champions, Reserve Champions and Top Tens. His knowledge, talent, integrity and work ethic are all reasons that he is highly respected in the horse community.

Ryan Oropeza became a professional after obtaining his degrees from UC Davis where he received a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Biotechnology with an emphasis in Animal Science. While obtaining his dual degrees, he worked as a barn supervisor and mentor instructor for the UC Davis Equestrian Center.

In 2007, he took on his newest role as coach to the UC Davis equestrian team while fully maintaining his cliental. Ryan has worked with many respected A-circuit professionals in Northern California. His riding background represents an eclectic mix from all avenues of the horse world, from Hunters, Equitation, Show Jumping to Eventing, and Dressage.

Debbie Smith began horseback riding as an adult, and has been riding for over 17 years. She has enjoyed both dressage (to Second Level) and hunter/jumper (at local SAHJA shows as well as “A” shows) and has also spent time trail riding.
