We offer horseback riding lessons for all ages. We have adult only lessons as well as father/daughter and moms only lessons. We teach Saddle Seat riding. We do not jump!! We have classes with City of Salem parks and recreation as well as a summer camp with them. We offer camps for winter and spring break as well as 1 day camps on holidays such as memorial day and 4th of July. We do birthday parties and ladies nights which are so much fun. Our lessons for beginners include ground time, grooming and tacking instruction. Once young riders are proficient in this process, then lesson time will begin when mounted. All riders need to wear proper riding boots and a safety approved helmet. New riders must have a copy of a current medical insurance card and a signed release waiver on file. Lessons may include mounted exercises as well as theory lessons (unmounted). We ride both in and out of the ring for a well-balanced riding education. Travelling to your barn for lessons and clinics is available. Please call for rates. 24 hour cancellation notice is required.

I can start young horses, rehab, put training on greenies or low level horses and re train difficult or even "impossible" horses. I also teach.

I am a behavioral specialist, using liberty training (advanced groundwork) and classical Dressage technique/theory with an emphasis on biomechanics and "riding with humility" to achieve unity with your horse- making you and him/her reach for your potential and begin a journey of self transformation.

Horses will help you find yourself if you give respect, ask for respect, listen to them, and surrender your fear.

My training is Dressage based but I believe all horses need a versatile foundation and incorporate XC schooling, cavaletti, trail riding, and fun but challenging activities when appropriate to build confidence in the horse and rider. I teach riders of all ages and experience levels on their own horses in the comfort of their own facility. I can also travel to shows or schooling events. I teach classical, balanced hunt seat equitation - beginners through advanced and all ages using my show quality lesson master horses and poinies. We fox hunt with Bedford County Hunt, compete at hunter pace competitions, and local shows where my horses and students win by using the techniques of total horsemanship I stress at all times. Horseshoe Creek Stables offers public trailrides in Roanoke, Virginia located in a great country setting but close in to Roanoke City and Vinton. 1-Hr Trailrides are $30.00 each and prescheduled on weekends. At Mahalo Farm in Earlysville, VA, we provide riding and carriage driving lessons for children and adults. Hunter-jumper, western, dressage and combined driving disciplines are offered as well as basic horsemanship skills for recreational riders who just want to trail ride or have fun. Our approach to riding is based on a strong foundation of natural horsemanship methods, Alexander Technique and Pilates, balanced seat, minimal aids, consideration of the horse and fun and safety for the rider. Private and semi-private lessons are offered as well as longer 1/2 day and full day lesson programs or trail rides during weekends, holidays and vacations. We also go to several local shows each year, attend several hunter paces and even go fox hunting several times a year.
For experienced riders, we offer partial leases of our well-trained and well-behaved horses. It's almost like owning a horse without all the extra expenses. It's a great way to enjoy horses, see the Virginia countryside from horseback and know that someone else is caring for the horses when you aren't around.
We also offer field boarding to a limited number of horses. All pastures have run-in sheds, fresh water and shade. Organic principles are followed throughout the farm including feeding organically/transitionally grown hay during the winter.
Need your horse or pony trained to drive or want a better shoulder-in on your horse, we can help you. We accept a very limited number of horses for training.

Riding lessons for children.

Beginner lessons offered with Kay and Monica focus on building a bond of love and trust between horse and rider through natural horsemanship methods taken from a variety of professional trainers and melded together into something that has been proven to work time and time again. They want you to feel confident in your riding.

One horse is available for lessons but it is preferred that you use your own horse if possible. $15 an hour.
Lessons will be given at the Catawba Equestrian Center, but they will travel to you if you have your own horse and would prefer not to move it.

Maya and Matty work together as a way to better your level of training, but when asked will work separately.

If you cannot afford the standard rates, feel free to call and discuss it. Both girls are willing to work for little to no charge after an extensive look into family backgrounds as to not be ripped off.

Equus Springs Farm offers lessons in both hunt seat and western pleasure, and are open to beginner through intermediate riders ages 5 and up. Our budget friendly lessons are designed to create a partnership between the horse and rider based on trust and understanding and effective communication. Lessons include grooming, tacking, and other ground skills, along with mounted skills. Our farm has a number of high quality school horses and ponies for all riders regardless of experience, or you may trailer in your own horse for lessons.

Coach Jeni Platt grew up on horseback on her family farm in Central Virginia where she participated in many equestrian activities. Jeni holds a BA in Psychology and a QMHP certificate in Virginia. She is also a certified Yoga Instructor and B4C Social Emotional Learning Facilitator. At SCS, she is the Operations Manager, Lead Horsemanship Coach, and Equine Specialist.

In our lesson program, students learn about horse behavior, care, grooming, and basic riding skills! We teach "horsemanship style" with an emphasis on safety and self awareness covering various topics, including horse caretaking, handling, and knowledge. There is riding of course but it is not our sole focus. We are always happy to work with any experience level and have fun!

SCS is inspiring the next generation of thinkers and doers through hands-on adventures! All activities are designed to foster critical thinking, socioemotional development, confidence, and teamwork. Classes are taught by a team of instructors with skills including groundwork, riding English and Western, games, confidence building, and more.

Youth ages 5 and up may join us for ninety-minute horsemanship lesson blocks that include both ground and riding instruction. We teach safety, groundwork, equine care and knowledge, equipment maintenance, and horseback riding. All classes are taught with an SEL focused approach and foster personal development. SCS Equestrian Team tryouts are open to anyone attending horsemanship classes weekly. Travel Team members must attend class a minimum of 2x weekly and are eligible to participate in off-farm events such as trail rides, hunter paces, and horse shows.
