At Phantom Ranch we teach ‘Rider Independence’. This means the student is taught all aspects of horse care, ground work and riding. Students are taught how to catch and groom their horse before the lesson, and how to untack and release their horse after the lesson. Students are challenged to experience different saddle disciplines as well as other styles - driving with our minis, vaulting on our draft horses and navigating our trail obstacle courses in-hand and mounted.

Kathy’s equine knowledge is derived from a diverse background cultivated from working with an array of individuals.

Kathy started her riding career at the age of 7 on a Shetland pony and moved up to horses with her moms Quarter Horse. Her foundation started with 4-H and she was taught the many values, ethics, and guidelines that she carries with her today. She has successfully competed in 4-H, USEF Hunter/Jumper, AQHA, AHA, Pinto, USDF Dressage, and AWS.

Abby is a USDF Bronze and Silver medalist (Gold anticipated in 2020), all aboard self-trained horses. She has coached multiple students to medal achievements, regional championship top ten placings, and year-end awards. Abby has earned several championship top ten placings, competed in US Dressage Finals, and received numerous year-end USDF and USEF awards. She is currently enrolled in the USDF L Program and is an ASEA Certified Equine Appraiser.

I am a dressage, jumping, and beginner lesson instructor. I came over from Holland over 6 years ago. Back in Holland I graduated as Veterinarian Assistant/Technician. I was always into the horses and have a lot of experience with the youngsters, and trained with some great trainers over in Holland.
In the US I trained under Yvonne Berkhout for many years, then Wayne Boyers, Kim Iwen and Endel Ots of Kim and Yvonne Barteau's KYB Dressage. I am terrific with kids, but do offer intermediate lessons to 3rd level. I have participated in many shows around the country and have scored in the seventies at every level I have competed.
