At Phantom Ranch we teach ‘Rider Independence’. This means the student is taught all aspects of horse care, ground work and riding. Students are taught how to catch and groom their horse before the lesson, and how to untack and release their horse after the lesson. Students are challenged to experience different saddle disciplines as well as other styles - driving with our minis, vaulting on our draft horses and navigating our trail obstacle courses in-hand and mounted.

We offer trail rides, week long summer horse camps; Girl Scouts and other group education, horsemanship lessons and volunteer opportunities. We are a ETS host for clinics and competitions. We are currently looking for summer staff who would like to work in a Christian environment and have a passion for training kids with horses.

We believe the more experience a student has with horses on all levels, the better they will understand and communicate with any horse they work with. Cindy, our instructor/trainer/owner, started her 20+ year career showing on the WI/IL dressage circuit. She has shown as such prestigious facilities as Lamplight Equestrian Center and Thistledown Farm. Cindy has studied under many top dressage trainers in the country, including Dominique Barbier, Alex Koynot, Natalie Lamping, Fatima Nelson, and Bodo Hagen. Cindy is also a NARHA licensed therapeutic riding instructor. Therefore, in additon to having clients that simply enjoy riding, or have successfully shown at local shows, she has the experience, knowledge, and patience to work with riders having learning disabilities.

HISTORY AND GOALS

Kathy’s equine knowledge is derived from a diverse background cultivated from working with an array of individuals.

Kathy started her riding career at the age of 7 on a Shetland pony and moved up to horses with her moms Quarter Horse. Her foundation started with 4-H and she was taught the many values, ethics, and guidelines that she carries with her today. She has successfully competed in 4-H, USEF Hunter/Jumper, AQHA, AHA, Pinto, USDF Dressage, and AWS.

Kenneth Dierks has a long and successful career in Eventing at the upper levels and showing in Dressage and Jumpers. He teaches Beginner thru Advanced levels. His style is patient and positive and focuses on instilling confidence in the horse and rider.

He has ridden in the NAYRC at the Intermediate** Level for 4 years and was a member of the gold-medal winning team in 1994. He is a Communications Graduate from Augustana College and a U.S. Pony Club Graduate A. Ken shows and trains numerous horses and specializes in young and problem horses.
