Sam has been riding horses for 8 years. He started taking lessons but quickly realized it was a passion for him so he began volunteering as help for riding camps. At that point he met an AQHA professional horseman and started riding under him everyday learning everything he could. Sam was one of the Top 100 youth point earners in the nation in 2018 for AQHA Western Pleasure Shows. After some time, he also started training and breaking horses for clients with his mentor’s guidance . He loves how you can learn a lot from a horse and how they responded to different ques if you’re patient and attentive.

Sam is focused in teaching all western disciplines including ranch riding, western pleasure, horsemanship, and trail patterns – which requires riders to have good communication with their horse and all parts of the horse’s body. Terri Young trains horses and teaches riders of all levels. She specializes in bridging the gap between the local Virginia show circuit and US Equestrian Federation-rated shows. Terri grew up competing in equitation and hunters in New Jersey before spending several years working for dressage trainers, including Lendon Gray. After graduating with a degree in business management from Syracuse University, she moved to Germany where she trained and showed jumpers before returning stateside to open her own stable. She is a USEF “r” judge and a member of the USHJA Youth Council. Terri has been accepted to the USHJA Trainer Certification Program and was the winner of "Win a Week with Frank Madden," sponsored by Bates Saddles and Practical Horseman Magazine. Four Winds Farm is now offering public riding lessons, both english AND western, for all ages and levels of riders in a family orientated, fun and safe environment!

We offer year round lessons. Students ride once a week, but additional lessons are available. Each lesson is 1 hour. We offer three options; private lessons, semi-private lessons and group lessons (up to 6 riders) morning, afternoon, weeknight and weekend classes are available

We have both indoor and outdoor arenas, lessons are rarely canceled due to weather.

FWF has a great group of horses and ponies for our lessons! Most of them are also available to lease (half or full) depending on the horse.

Our instructors have a very wide background of knowledge and experience in hunters, jumpers, eventing, dressage, western pleasure and much more!

Enjoy and learn all aspects of the horse world, from the basics of horsemanship, such as grooming and tacking, every day care like feeding and barn management,from training to showing and so much more!

Four Winds Farm is the "host facility" for the Prince William Horse Association horse shows. We host 7 english and 7 western shows each season (usually march thru October) and we encourage our students to participate in the shows on one of our horses! There are classes for ALL levels from the Lead Line division on up!

Hard hat, pants and boots with a hard smooth sole and a heel must be worn while riding.

I have been teaching riding lessons since I was 16 years old and have taken a year’s hiatus from teaching to focus on my career. I am now ready to start teaching again. I am looking to teach people on their own mounts, though would consider a limited number of clients to ride my (wonderful) mare.
I am fully educated to instruct riding lessons, as I graduated with a degree in Recreation and Leisure with a concentration in Equine Studies from Houghton College. The focus of my equine studies was not only in horsemanship and barn management, but in teaching. My studies included becoming a level 4 CHA Certified Riding Instructor (the highest attainable level for one discipline), clinics with Olympic coaches and a course on educational psychology. The greatest value I received from my education was not becoming a better rider, but that I became a teacher.
I have the ability to instruct riders of all levels and all ages. I also have experience working with those who need some confidence building. My focus is always on partnership with the horse and how our bodies relate to the horses. I develop programs and exercises based on each riders needs in order to achieve success. My goal is for each lesson to build upon the last, for my student to take something away from each lesson, and to make it all FUN!
I have been riding since the age of 3, and began serious instruction at the age of 8. My base of knowledge all stems from classical dressage and branches into hunters, jumpers, eventing, and some western. I have ridden not only with Olympic coach Walter Zettl, but also with Olympic rider Chris Kappler. When I moved to Virginia I was a working student for an Advanced level eventer. This experience allowed me to have coaching from her, as well as be present when she was having lessons from greats such as Jimmy Wofford.
My extensive riding background and my education in teaching and how people learn equips me with the tools to be an excellent instructor. My outgoing, energetic personality draws students into learning and puts them at ease.
