Our philosophy for the past 45 years is to install self-esteem, responsibility and sportsmanship in a positive and fun, family oriented enviroment. Lesson Program For Riders Of All Ages!
Our lesson program is designed for riders at all levels who may or may not own there own horse or pony. We give individual instruction with safety being the upmost importance. Our riders are taught the basics of both a correct riding seat and respect for the horse or pony, learning many ground skills that help a good rider. Our young adult and adult riders are in the program for a variety of reasons. Some want to gain additional riding or driving experience in the show horse discipline, some want to begin a love affair of riding not attained in their younger years, some have started after their children are older, and some are riding to gain personal and physical strength. Yvonne Mathews has been involved in youth development and the use of horses as teachers for over 25 years in Washington State. She has coached many 4-H youth through their 4-H project as well as mentored aspiring instructors and trainers. Her students have been top ten riders as well as medal riders consistently.
Prior to coaching, Yvonne apprenticed under trainers with various breeds of horses. Most notably, Arabians at Scott Arabians, as well as Paso Finos, At Ranch Paso Bravo, in California. She also worked at Brown’s Canyon Equestrain center with Kathy Brown as a polo pony exerciser. She has a two year degree in Equine Science and Nutrition, from Pierce College, Ca. and continues her Equine knowledge periodically with judges training and volunteering as ring steward/scribe at local equine shows.

Eickert Eventing offers high quality training and riding lessons year-round for youth and adults of all skill levels. Barefoot and Bitless has partnered with trainers in the Kitsap area to provide an Introduction to Riding Lesson Package. The package includes a month of lessons with one of our trainers, to total four (4) weekly lessons.

Rachael Fisk of Breidablik Farm in Poulsbo, WA. started riding as a small child and began showing horses at only six (6) years old. Rachael teaches both Western and English, actively coaches Pony Club, 4-H, as well as Eventing and Dressage students. Rachael is thorough, knowledgeable, and respectful with both students and horses alike. Rachael explains each step of the process beginning with tacking up the horse and ending with grooming after the riding is over. She is a perfect match for both adults and children beginning to ride.

Anne Johnson of Blacktree Farm near Poulsbo, WA. Anne has over 28 years of experience in Eventing and Dressage, with additional experience in Hunter/Jumpers, Reining, Western Pleasure, and Vaulting. Primarily English, Anne has the skills, patience, and understanding to bring you from a soft walk to a canter before you know it! Anne brings a quiet confidence to every lesson she teaches, helping both horse and rider to feel safe and informed with each step. Lesson horses are available.

Our lessons revolve around three things: safety, fun, and progress.

To stay safe, we use a lot of natural horsemanship principles to help us interact with horses in ways that make sense to them. Understanding that horses are prey animals and social pack animals can help us consider why they react to certain things, and what types of situations make them uncomfortable. This awareness helps us work with them safely and allows us to teach horses new things. Whether you want to go trail riding or hit the show ring, your horse needs to be able to accept new situations calmly and confidently.

The main part of our philosophy is that horses are fun! Just hanging out around the barn with horses and friends is half of the fun. We use a lot of games and activities in our lessons so you and the horse get to think and have fun while learning to ride. And being part of the horse crazy group out at the shows or on the trail is the best part of any day.

We have a clear, progressive curriculum to help you learn about horses. Our learning includes horse care and maintenance, proper tack, safety and horsemanship, balanced riding, and good communication with the horse on the ground and under saddle.
