Our mission is to bring our love for horses into the hearts of new and developing riders. We strive to develop and guide a fresh and insatiable hunger for the equine arts in our riders, whether child or adult, and to encourage rider independence and balance.
Whether you are a beginner who wants to learn to ride, or an experienced rider who wants to improve your skills, there is a place for you at our Riding School! We teach English and Western to our students, who range in age from 4 to Mature. Group and private sessions are available.
Students are split into small riding groups based on their ability and previous riding experience. Our goal is to build each rider’s skills and confidence enabling them to ride safely and correctly. Theory is an essential plank of our curriculum. The ‘whys’ of riding, training, and horse behavior, are equally important to the ‘hows’. Small group environment allows our instructors to offer individualized attention and develop riders at their own pace.
All students are taught a solid foundation in the basics of riding. Hunter, Jumper, Dressage, and Pleasure riders all learn to employ the balanced seat appropriate for their preferred riding style. Horsemanship is an essential aspect of every lesson. Each student is required to practice the basic responsibilities of the equine art, such as catching, grooming, and tacking their horse. I am an FEI dressage trainer and instructor who offer lessons on your horse or a lesson horse if you don’t have your own horse yet. I concentrate on correct and soft riding, creating a supple horse from engaging the hind end and carrying itself on the forehand. Jen attended and graduated from Johnson and Wales University in Providence Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science in Equine Business Management and Riding with a concentration in Instruction & Training. In May 2012, Jen traveled to Germany with the University for 3 weeks of study at the Westphalian Riding School in Muenster Germany. While there, she completed a German medal testing course consisting of dressage & jumping. She studied with Phillip Dutton, Olympic Gold Medal Eventer in June 2014. Rio Vista Farm, located on the banks of the Colorado River, opened to the public in 1995. The facility quickly became the premier Hunter/Jumper stable of Austin, offering top quality care and professional training for both horse and rider.

Located 3 miles from Austin Airport, within 15 minutes from downtown Austin and the University of Texas, and about 25 minutes from Westlake Hills (with van transportation service available from convenient Westlake location.
Head Trainer Susan McMorris instructs those that own their own horses or are leasing. Boarders sign up for 2 specific group lesson days and times per week. This allows us to group together riders by ability and to limit lesson size. Susan began her professional career in 1984 after graduating from Meredith Manor School of Equestrian Studies. She has operated Hunter/Jumper training/lesson barns since 1985, creating many lesson programs and summer camp operations that have been copied throughout the city. She has taken many riders from summer camp level to year end high point winner in Hunters, Jumpers and Equitation. Rio Vista riders can be seen in the high point standings of local and Texas A shows on a yearly basis.

Assistant Trainers Haylee Morris and Amy Gangstad are available for those students that ride the lesson horses or to beginner rider boarders. Haylee has 15+ years of experience teaching riders of all levels provides her with the knowledge and patience to provide excellent instruction to both first time riders or those with more experience. Amy began her riding career with Susan and upon graduation from St. Edwards University began working as a professional trainer/rider.
Group Lessons: (45 minutes to 1 hour) Available on a monthly basis only. $190 monthly with a $100 deposit for once a week lessons. One month notice required to discontinue lessons. Deposit applied to final month after proper notice is given.

Private Lessons: (45 minutes) $65 for initial introductory private lesson. After initial private, lessons available on a monthly basis only. $330 monthly with a $150 deposit for once a week private lessons.
