Farrier Services provided nationally and Internationally. The Kentucky Horse Park is known for having more horse breeds than any other farm in the World. We Showcase each Breed in show standard conditions. As the only Farrier for the park with more then 130 variety of horses the knowledge of each breed and specifications for hoof quality and set up are essential. I shoe 3 day eveners , Hunter's, dressage, reining horses, carriage horses, draft horses etc. Each horse is an individual with their own set of circumstances. Each horse is shod according to those circumstances. I don't believe in the "band-aid" approach but a specific goal for correction. My motto has always been if "I can't fix it". I am a farrier located in Lexington KY but I travel throughout Ky. I am regularly in Louisville and the bowling green area and many places in between. I served a four year apprenticeship shoeing race horses. I have a lot of experience with lame horses because of that.
I have been under thousands of horses. I have experience with cold shoeing as well as glueing and patching.
I have experience in many breeds of horses, from minis to draft. From performance to pasture pets.
I charge very competitive rates and I understand that in today's economy what that means. I try not to charge trip fees as many do. I usually don't unless it is only 1 horse and I am making a special trip just for you and even then I usually just charge for gas and not my time driving

Nigel is a very experienced Farrier of 33 years who had a shoeing practice in England and now we live just outside Richmond KY.
He served a 4-1/2 year U.K. Farriery Apprenticeship and qualified 26 years ago and holds the much coveted Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Farriers (DWCF) exam and the post-graduate higher horse shoeing exam, the Associateship of the Worshipful company of Farriers (AWCF) accolade.   In 2022 he accomplished the Fellowship examination (FWCF) the highest Horseshoeing accolade in the world of Horseshoeing for which he passed the with Honours and one of only 5 farriers in the past 60 years to do so .

Nigel also holds the USA CF (Certified Farrier); CJF (Certified Journeyman Farrier) and Forging Endorsement certifications .

Nigel has had an extensive competitive career as a Farrier and which his main highlights include: National Industrial Blacksmithing Champion; Two Italian Farriery Show Champion titles in Verona Italy; A British National Champion Medallist and has represented the England Farrier Team 8 times as a reserve and main member, with 2 World Team International wins 2013/14 and as Reserve Individual International Show Champion 2014 at Stoneleigh U.K; 2 x World championship finalist in Calgary Canada 2007/13 and a Finalist at the Europe Farriery Championships in Austria 2012.  Most recently Nigel was reserve U.K. National Champion 2015 and Won the coveted prestigious World Horseshoeing Team Classic two years in a row in Kentucky 2016 & 2017. 
He is an included clinician to the fantastic Farriery training website "Know foot Know horse" and is appointed and approved as a Judge for 10 years by the Worshipful Company of Farriers in the U.K. 
Nigel was the England team farrier manager from 2012 to 2018 for both the senior and apprentice teams.  He is also a World wide teaching Farriery clinician and judge passing on his experience of shoeing and competition and forging skills and has given clinics in Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, and Germany and many states in the USA. He is also a Renowned Farriery Judge worldwide.

Nigel’s shoeing experience covers a huge area of expertise from pleasure horses to dressage, sports horses show jumping and Hunters and individual disciplines in many USA horse sport disciplines.

Areas covered Lexington, Versailles , Richmond and some surrounding county’s . Clients are also welcome to travel Horses for shoeing & trimming appointments to the Foremans Forge shop .

Basic Prices
Trims $60 - Extensive/ over due trimming can be charged more if depending on the severity of the feet to be restored back to normal hoof capsule parameters.

Half set (front shoes & trim Hinds $160
Full Set (4 shoes) $275
Shoe replacement visits (pulled shoes) $75
Remedial & Surgical shoeing is priced per case & time /evaluation & veterinary consultation if necessary.
Some Shoeing prices can depend on type & use /requirements etc
Extras - pad systems , grip & traction & remedial modern materials priced as to use & application requirements.

A call charge may be applicable to certain distances.

Only taking clients who will stay on a regular cycle; no longer than every 5 weeks for shoeing and 7 weeks for trimming.

Unruly or Dangerous horses to shoe or trim cannot be catered for due to safety concerns for both Farrier & Holders .
Some cases for appropriate correct & safe sedation can be considered in certain situations.... See More
