Horseback Riding in Hartford, Connecticut (Hartford County)

Hillside stable currently offers two different horseback riding instructors, Kelly Morin ( English or Western Beginner through Intermediate lessons), and Ellen Radtke (Intermediate through advanced Hunter/Jumper or Dressage Lessons). Lessons can be taught on our safe, reliable lesson horses, or bring your own horse. Please read more about our instructors and their rates below.

Lessons w/Kelly Morin:

English or Western (Beginner through Intermediate), taught by Kelly Morin a CHA certified horseback riding instructor, with over 20 years experience working with horses. Lessons are taught on our safe reliable, well trained lesson horses. Unlike most large stables we don't require you to sign up for high priced lesson packages. If you want to just take one lesson, that's okay with us. Lessons include learning to groom and tack up the horse.

Lessons w/ Ellen Radtke:

Hunter/ Jumper or Dressage



Ellen has over 35 years experience in the combined training and hunter/jumper disciplines as both a competitor and coach. Ellen started riding at age 12 under the guidance of renowned 3-Day Event rider and trainer Denny Emerson, successfully competing up to the preliminary level. She then moved on to hunters and jumpers working for notable trainers Ronnie Mutch, Timmie Kees and Jefferey Wells of Nimrod farm. Ellen also gained great knowledge as a manager and trainer for private farms in MA and CT. For a short time she was also involved in show Quarter Horses working with trainers Doug Carpenter and Robert Johnson. Ellen left the professional ranks becoming an amateur in 1986 campaigning her own hunter to numerous champions and reserves while employed as a marketing consultant for AT&T. Ellen returned to the professional ranks in 2008 as instructor and barn manager for Olympian Buddy Brown in Livermore, CA.
