I teach French Classical equitation offering both mounted lessons and work in hand (the old classical ground work, including longe work). I also teach the old French cavalry seatwork, developing balance for riders in ANY discipline- we all need great balance! It's 'non-denominational'. I'm accredited as a teacher with the Foundation for the Equestrian Arts, and have taught lessons and clinics across the US and internationally. My teaching is friendly and supportive, I'm good at drawing out the useful, thinking mind in riders who are too much in their heart, and the feel and connection in riders too stuck in their heads. And with years of studying the old masters I'm great at helping you make sense of WHY we do what we do. This older way of working is pleasant for the horse as well as for the rider and it develops a wonderful riding horse in any discipline. The work not only doesn't damage the horse as many of our modern exhibition based disciplines do, it actually sets the horse up for a long, peaceful, healthy life under saddle. The work in hand helps heal horses recovering from injuries and supports horses no longer under saddle to live longer more healthy lives. I travel to teach regularly and am happy to set up a clinic or set of lessons at your barn anywhere in the US. I also offer regular study groups, reading the old literature and learning how it applies today. Students as young as 10 are welcome, and adults of any age and any experience level from beginner to professional. Hylabrook Farm offers a unique program for each customer, whether your needs are weekly lessons on our friendly school horses or full time training and showing - or any combination thereof. Potential customers are always welcome to observe lessons and training rides and there is never such a thing as a silly question!

Each student has unique needs, and our goal is to come up with a program that best suits them, as well as setting the student up for success. Lessons are offered in both english and western disciplines and may be scheduled in half-hour blocks for younger students and those with green horses in need of short, focus and re-focus sessions. For those more committed or advanced students and horses, lessons usually run approximately an hour and may occasionally fall just under or over that time depending on the challenges and accomplishments of the day - we want everyone finishing on a good note with confidence.

Our goal is to create a solid foundation that both horse and rider can rely on as they climb the skill ladder - this means students may spend time on the lunge line learning body awareness, playing games and practicing specialized exercises to develop balance and dexterity, and even riding bareback or without stirrups to develop independence.

Lesson horses are available on a limited basis at this time. Availability is dependent on the rider's skill level and the horse's current schedule. We do our best to accomodate everyone while keeping the horses fresh and happy.
