Rustic View Farm is located in the scenic Baraboo Bluffs, in Merrimac,Wisconsin. We are home to about 30 Morgan horses as well as our beloved Labrador Retrievers and Pembroke Welsh Corgis. Rustic View Farm is owned by Dr. Dean and Wendy Meyer. Started in 1989 with the beginning of a breeding program that has since developed into what we believe to be Morgans with quality, substance, and style. Whether for the showring or for the family horse, we offer horses of all ages, all levels of training. If you are looking for a new show prospect, or a family horse, we welcome you to our farm! In 2011, we welcomed Jim Riggs, our new son-in-law officially into our family and are pleased to have him as our resident trainer, along with our daughter Nicole. Jim has been a horseman all of his life and brings to Rustic View Farm, his knowledge and expertise with starting young horses right. He is first and foremost a skilled farrier and operates his farrier service full time. Nicole has grown up in the show ring. She has shown at the National level and has been very successful in her endeavors. She now offers a complete lesson program from beginners thru advanced.

Riding Lessons:

We offer riding lessons for those interested in showing or for individuals who would like to learn to ride just for the fun of it, no matter what age.

Wisconsin winters can be long and cold and horseback riding is an excellent way to keep in shape during those long winter months! Ride in comfort in our newly remodeled heated indoor arena!!

Our Lesson Progrom

Every individual begins with a private lesson to evauluate their experience so they may be placed with the best possible horse. For a beginner, it will take several private lessons before they are ready to participate in a group lesson. Every individual progresses at a different rate. Very young riders will require more one-on-one attention and we recommend private riding lessons until the rider is comfortable being transitioned into a group session. This time frame varies for each individual.

Lesson Length

Lessons generally last approximately 30 minutes. However, that can be a long time for a young person to ride and some individuals do better with a shorter ride. Therefore, we will spend the remainder of time grooming the horse or learning about horses in general.

Lesson Attire

You must wear long pants and closed toe shoes to your lesson. Sandals or open-toed (or open-heeled) shoes are not appropriate. Shorts and capri pants are not acceptable.... See More

Any age beginners through advanced riders accepted. Specializing hunter/jumper lessons and camps. We take pride in building self-confidence, self-esteem and self-awarness in both the rider and horse in a safe environment.

We are not only a CUSTOM SADDLE SHOP but we are giving lessons to kids and young adults. We start at the beginning and teach the very basics on how to handle a horse on the ground and earn their trust which in turn earns you respect from your horse.
We can use your horse or ours. We can give 1 or 2 hour lessons which are $30.00 for 1 hour and $55.00 for a 2 hour lesson.
All riders and spectators ride at their own risk and will be required to sign a release form.
If you bring your own horse and the horse needs work as well the there may be added costs.

Hunter/Jumper boarding, lessons, training, and showing. Whether you've never ridden a horse, or have competed on the A circut we can customize a program to suit your needs. We have lesson horses available if you don't have your own, and boarding, leasing or trailering in is also an option. We have a fun social atmosphere from bonfires to holiday activities, but also have a competitive side as we put on our monthly horse shows. We compete from the local circut to the A circut, but I'm also dedicated to teaching a bonding relationship between horse and rider.

We offer saddle seat (English) and some western riding lessons to all levels of riders, from the first lesson to the most advanced rider. You do not have to own your own horse as we have riding programs for the serious show ring competitor as well as for newcomers - even Tiny Tots! In all facets of the learning process, we encourage a strong sense of camaraderie, sportsmanship and fun. We offer adult-only riding groups on Monday evenings. Our heated indoor arena allows us to maintain our lesson schedule year-round.

We would love for you to come and visit us for a tour and watch us give a riding lesson so you can learn first-hand about our program and teaching style. We give lessons Monday through Thursday and on weekends. Please call ahead if you would like to come for a visit.

We also offer camps, birthday parties, Girl Scout and Boy Scout visits to earn badges, boarding and training services. Clients are also welcome to join our Youth Club which meets once a month and participates in horse activities, community service, fun outings, and more!

**Training & Lessons** Steph has been riding horses since she was 7 years old. Steph has been training and giving lessons for about 5 years. Steph believes in building a relationship between the horse and rider, and while doing so building both the horse and riders confidence. Steph teaches through Natural Horsemanship, building trust between the horse and rider. Learning how the horse thinks and moves is vital to how you ask a horse to move off of pressure. At Phantom Ranch we teach ‘Rider Independence’. This means the student is taught all aspects of horse care, ground work and riding. Students are taught how to catch and groom their horse before the lesson, and how to untack and release their horse after the lesson. Students are challenged to experience different saddle disciplines as well as other styles - driving with our minis, vaulting on our draft horses and navigating our trail obstacle courses in-hand and mounted.

We offer trail rides, week long summer horse camps; Girl Scouts and other group education, horsemanship lessons and volunteer opportunities. We are a ETS host for clinics and competitions.
