I am a University of Findlay graduate holding 2 Bachelors Degrees in Equine Business Management and Western Equestrian Studies offering riding lessons, training, show coaching and 4H help in the areas of Lorain, Huron and Erie counties of Ohio. At Sunset Stables we give instruction in huntseat, western, showmanship, trail (class and riding) offer lessons for the most nervous of beginner to more advanced riders who want to show on the circuit. I have over ten years experience riding, including a period of employment as a trail guide. Lessons would be at your home/or boarding facility on your own horse. I do have a lesson horse available if needed. I showed western pleasure in 4-h, have some experience in cutting, reining and mounted shooting. Lessons are $25/hour with discounts for purchasing packages.

Training:I do not finish horses but I can help solve some problems you may be having. In addition I really enjoy working with weanlings and yearlings groundwork etc. I will come to you if you have a round pen or you can board your horse(s) where I keep my own. I charge $1=100 /week plus mileage. Off site or $50/week + board if you choose to do that.

Includes a ride/working with your horse 5 days a week for 1-2 hours
I will also offer specialized services such as stall cleaning, barn upkeep, feeding, horse/house/pet sitting ($15/hour) and excercise riding ($20/hour)

My program focuses on developing a working bond between horse and handler. In doing so confidence is fostered not only in the rider but the horse as well. This creates a solid foundation based on positive reinforcement and facilitates easy learning advancement in addition to preventing negative habits from forming.
I have been involved with horses my whole life. At age nine I began breaking and training ponies. I have shown with AQHA and NSBA for the last sixteen years and have had the opportunity to apprentice with many great horsemen of the industry. My personal achievements include 2008 NSBA Res. Limited Rider of the year, 2008 Reichert Intermediate Slot class winner, 2010 Reichert champion, multiple top five and top ten placings at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. Hello there! My style of teaching is based around the principle that bettering one's self will directly benefit their ability to work in unity with their horse. I firmly believe that what we bring to the relationship defines the limitations of our partnership, and that the majority of horsemanship is about building yourself up to be the person your horse needs. I always seek to empower each horse and human as individuals first, and then as a unified partnership. My lessons are centered around building mindfulness within ourselves and our horses, emotional resilience and regulation, and creating better understanding and practice of how to effectively communicate with our horses. Perhaps you are struggling with anxiety around riding, or your horse spooks too much for your comfort. Maybe the riding part is going great but you desire a deeper connection and feeling of togetherness with your equine partner. A teacher first and foremost, Kerry Varble combines a lifetime of experience in multiple disciplines including eventing, hunter/jumpers, mountain trail, and endurance, with a professional approach to the education of horses and riders. She holds a masters degree in education from Walsh University and a graduate certificate in the teaching of learners with mild/moderate disabilities from Baldwin Wallace University.

As a riding instructor, Kerry is able to transition her teaching skills to help students gain the knowledge, confidence and expertise to accomplish their riding objectives while enjoying the learning experience.

In addition to assisting students achieve their riding goals, Kerry has trained horses of all breeds for jumping, dressage, and mountain trail. She specializes in working with off track thoroughbreds, and she has worked with CANTER Ohio doing first rides off the track and training rides to help transition horses to new careers.

In 2021 Kerry was champion of the open training division of the NEOMTA mini trials series with her mare, Happy Eloise, that she purchased as a three year old at the 2017 Mountaineer racetrack auction. She currently trains with ICP4* certified instructor Dr. Susan Hines, and has worked with Jackie Smith of Stone Gate Farm, learning all aspects of running horse trials and shows.

Instructors are CHA and or CCHI certified. We teach from all four levels. Trail riding is available Tuesday through Sunday and closed Mondays except holidays. Homeschool and Afterschool riding lessons are offered in the spring and fall.
