Our small farm focuses on learning about horseback riding through games and fun! We work with children on the basics and get them ready to continue their learning in whatever discipline they want to advance in (ie: jumping, dressage, western pleasure, trail, etc). Unlike most riding programs, we don't have an age requirement as this is all about safe fun and doing whatever keeps your little rider happy and focused! We have lots of experience with kids camps, family riding, trail and camping trips with horses, and even adults deciding to venture into the world of horses. Worried about being judged for taking up riding at an older age? Not here! We just want to see you relax and enjoy being around and on a horse.

Jovita Farm is a small, family oriented farm on a quiet and serene dirt road. There are miles of trails to enjoy a walk or ride with your equine partner. Lessons are taught by a Second Level Certified Centered Riding Instructor with over 35 years of equine education experience.This education is combined with Natural Horse Communication,often termed;Natural Horsemandship. If one chooses to become involved with horses, they must realize that they will need to learn to lanquage of Equine. Every movement that a horse makes has meaning, thus, as a herd of two, every movement a human makes has meaning to the horse. We focus on developing a strong partnership with the horse which involves trust, respect, empathy, patience, humor, love and dignity. A foundation of ground education of the horse and human ensures that the horse trusts the human and knows that, as the horses leader, the human will keep the horse safe. This idea is imperative in a horse's mind. Once the ground foundation is understood, anything is possible! The ground foundation also educates the horse how to separately move the front end, be soft laterally in the neck and shoulders, ioslate the barrel and back, and isolate the hind end. This creates a soft, supple, light horse. Mounted education is based on classical dressage and the four basics of Centered Riding, allowing a rider to be soft, secure and centered, with a deep seat and body that follows and allows the horse to move, with soft eyes and correct breathing. Every individual(horse and human) learns differently and educational lessons are specialized to each individuals needs. This style of education and learning teaches many life lessons such as patience, focus, multi-tasking,recognizing and controlling emotions,recognizing body communication,centering and grounding, creativity, living in the moment,confidence, responsibility, and many other life skills that can be helpful for children and adults. There is a lovely lighted and airy indoor arena and many trails.The horses live in a natural environment with large paddocks and run-ins. Stalls are available. This education can be utilized for any equine disipline. Focus is on safety, fun, creativity. All aspects of equine knowledge is included in the lesson program including learning the horse, inside and out; first aid, recognizing illness and lameness, farm management. Private, semi-private and group lessons are available.Camps are also offered during school vacations and during the summer. Learn how to ride and understand horses from a holistic perspective. Lessons combine traditional equitation with relaxation techniques, breath-work and grounding. We are a hunter-jumper competition and training stable, and riding school. Our practices and methods are classic hunter-jumper style based on the George Morris model.

We offer private and group lessons. We recommend that our students take at least one lesson per week to ensure consistent progress. Trailering-in is welcome.

Thanks to our indoor area, lessons continue year round, regardless of the weather.

Each student's lesson program is designed specifically for him/her. Students who do not have a horse or pony of their own are matched with one of our lesson horses or ponies, all of which are safe, experienced, well trained and schooled regularly by our trainers.

Once students are comfortable grooming and tacking up, students are expected to have themselves and their horses ready by their appropriate lesson time, allowing them to ride for the full allotted time.

As students progress, they may wish to move to group lessons with riders of similar abilities.

Instructors:
Sofia Clark ; Sofia has been a rider all of her life, competing in the juniors and then attending Skidmore College where she took Equine Studies classes and riding instruction. In 2005 she started a summer pony camp at the Twitchell Hill Farm Homestead and it all took off from there! Sofia teaches and coaches beginners through junior jumper students; she combines positive cheerful energy in her teaching and coaching with the highest standards for excellence in horsemanship and equitation.

Oakley Clark; Oakley’s journey through the professional horse world started in Vermont but soon branched out to Quebec, Canada where he was a jumper rider and working student with Laurie Bucci. He turned professional in 2013, training and coaching at Twitchell Hill. Soon however his talent caught the eye of George H. Morris and he started working for GHM at clinics and riding for him in Florida at WEF in 2013. In the winter of 2014 he worked for Havens Schatt (and learned more about the hunter world.) Currently he is riding and assistant training at Heritage Farm for Andre Dignelli and returns to Twitchell Hill frequently to school our horses and teach clinics.

I offer both English and Western lessons.

Western riding lessons are game-focused, with an emphasis on learning how to ride safely and develop a secure seat while riding for the fun and adventure of it! If you are an English rider wanting to cut loose a little and expand your horizons, or are a beginner wanting to develop a secure and confident seat that will be serve you well in any discipline you choose in the future, Western is a great and exciting option. Lessons will progress in the direction of the student's interest, and could include barrel racing, gymkhana games, trail riding, and bareback riding.

English lessons are available for kids and small adults on Laura, our foundation fell pony mare. We will learn in the Classical Dressage tradition (aka The Art of Riding Warhorses!), the top tier of which is practiced by the Lipizzaner stallions at the Spanish Riding School. English lessons will also be focused on having fun while learning to ride, with a lot of the same gymkhana game elements as with western riding for beginners, but will be particularly exciting for anyone wishing to advance in dressage or other English disciplines because of the depth of skill and riding technique covered. I also should emphasize that a person trained to ride in the classical tradition will have the secure seat, control, and horse sense to master any discipline they choose later on.
