Lightfoot Horse Farm is located in Chico, CA (specifically Cohasset, CA) surrounded by Northern California’s most picturesque scenery! We are a small family farm, teaching private beginner lessons to children and adults alike. What sets us apart from other riding facilities is that we teach horsemanship, rather than just riding lessons. Whereas other facilities throw students up in the saddle at the first lesson, focusing on just one discipline of riding, we start from the ground up. Students become well-rounded, learning groundwork, handling, grooming, tacking, caring, feeding, and communicating with horses, as well as riding and basic vet care.

We do not focus on one discipline of riding, but incorporate both Western and English styles of riding in our lessons. We utilize all of our resources – from the round pen, to the arena, to the jump field, to the miles and miles of trail that surround our property. We are a full service training facility located in beautiful Butte Valley, CA. We offer in-house lessons on your horse or ours, with the option of working in our covered arena, round pen, obstacle course or out on the trail. We also are willing to travel to appointments up to an hour away. Additionally, we do accept a limited number of horses for training - specializing with colt starting, troubled horses/behavioral issues, tune-ups or discipline specific training in select disciplines. NorCal Trail Rides and NorCal Riding Stables have been offering lessons to the public for 9 years now. We have safe and gentle horses. All of our instructors are great teachers and are good with children. We offer lessons to children as young as 2 yrs old and we have adults in their 80's. It's never too late to start lessons. Our focus is to learn and to have fun while you are learning.
