Meadow Wood Farm's lesson program welcomes all levels and ages of riders from the beginner to the advanced, whether you have your own pony/horse or ride one of ours. We have a variety of fabulous lesson ponies and horses to suit the many different levels of riders. At Meadow Wood, we feel that having safe, suitable lesson ponies/horses is the key to establishing a good and confident rider.

We teach lessons Monday through Friday and offer 30 minute private lessons, 45 minute semi-private lessons and 1 hour group lessons. We offer our lessons in monthly packages and always strive to customize your lesson schedule to fit in with your busy, daily life. Special times are also available for younger children, home-schoolers, and adults. We offer special lesson packages and prices for boarders. We welcome haul-in students as well.

Our riding instructor Tiffany McWhirter has been riding for 30 years and began riding competitively 27 years ago. She has been teaching 20 of those years, long enough to see a couple of her students go on to be instructors themselves. Although no longer riding competitively, she still enjoys teaching the young riders and giving them a solid correct foundation in horsemanship based on the Pony Club standards and the classical methods of dressage. She specializes in teaching clear and effective communication between horse and rider through correct use of the aids using a “natural horsemanship” philosophy of harmonizing with your horse, gaining his trust and willingness to carry out our wishes without resistance. Children in our program will be schooled in every aspect of horsemanship – not just the riding parts. We believe in teaching you how to be a complete and well-rounded equestrian, starting with ground manners, ground work and basic horsemanship skills. You will learn how to handle, groom, and prepare your horse safely. Through this process, you develop a more thorough understanding of horses before you mount and ride. On May 1, 2013, a new era will begin at Huntcliff. We will now be known as River Run Equestrian at Huntcliff. Many new and exciting programs and improvements are in the works.
