Our mission is to support self-growth, promote inclusivity and build a connection within the community through animal-assisted activities designed to improve cognitive, social, emotional, and physical functioning. Our program is open to people of any ages and any ability, but our priority goes to those looking for a therapeutic environment. We do not focus on competition and our program participants have a large part in designing their horsemanship journey. This program is not suitable for any rider that is looking to compete in equine sports. Blue Skies Riding Academy is a new, non-profit organization offering horsemanship instruction to youth and adults. Conveniently located in Emerson, Exit 283 just minutes from I-75, lessons are available every day of the week for riders age five and up. Riders learn gaits, position, control of the horse, finesse, and jumping as they progress. They may also participate in horse shows, equestrian team activities, and field trips.

Blue Skies lesson horses are dependable, well schooled, and fun! Horses range from the kindest babysitters for first-time riders up to those who can jump three-foot courses. Instructors are certified by the Certified Horsemanship Association, have at least five years experience teaching riding, and are trained in first aid and CPR. We are a small family owned farm, offering beginner horse backing lessons for adults, children and the timid. The atmosphere here is casual and inviting and safety is our biggest concern.

We offer Western riding lessons and begin by learning all about a horse and how they think, then we teach you how to groom a horse, how to saddle up a horse, how to ride, then how to unsaddle, cool him down and groom him after the ride. So you understand the experience from beginning to end. You spend time getting to know your lesson horse and of course treats of carrots and apples are always appreciated.
