Sugar Knoll Farm is a lovely, family-friendly equine operation located in Huber Heights, Ohio. We are geared towards helping people of all ages and experience levels have FUN with horses! With a large indoor riding arena and heated viewing lounge, riding lessons are taught year round. Shelley Fisher, Sugar Knoll's instructor, has over 20 years of experience with horses and has taken numerous teams on to win local, National, and World's Championship titles. While competition is an option at Sugar Knoll, there are also plenty of other ways to enjoy horses, such as the fun-filled private or group lessons, where emphasis is on building confidence and skill. Students are encouraged to interact with the horses and take part in their care. For those who wish to try riding in a cart behind the horse, driving lessons are offered. Stonegate is one of th emost elite riding barns in the Coolville area. Owner: Karen Hiehle has coached kids to the Maclay Finals, Pony Finals, and USEF Medal finals.Her son Michael Hiehle has his own IEA team which caters to the highschool aged children who wish to gain show experience and ride a variety of horses. Last year Michael coached his very first team all the way to zones which is only second to nationals. The approach to training either you or your horse is tailored specifically to your needs. There is plenty of opprtunity to show and gain the upmost confidence and experience. Shows are hosted regularly in the large lighted indoor arena and cost very little to attend.If you are looking to attend larger shows Karen and Michael travel frequently to Culpeper, Chagrin, Lexington(VA), and many other show circuits. Besides the highscool team, there is and intercollegiate team. The Ohio University Equestrian Team rides at the barn and often stays around during the summer to ride on the local and rated circuits.
Our boarding accomidations are very well kept due to our fantastic barn help: Justin Martin and Josh! There is a more affordable shedrow barn, that is situated next to the outdoor ring, which is getting re-done this summer as it needs some newer footing. There is also the slightly more expensive indoor barn, which is located next to the indoor arena. Both barns include a wash bay and two full tack rooms.
If your horse is in need of trainig, there are a few of the better riders, who often take on a few summer project horses.

We have fun but safe riding lessons. I have been a full time riding instructor for 9 years, I certainly love what I do. I typically start at the age of 5 but I have had some students start as early as 4 years old. Right now my oldest student is 50 so as you can see I have a wide range of ages. I do use my personal horses, I have at times traveled to other barns if need be. My rates are 4-5 year olds are a half an hour private lesson for $15, 6 years old and up is an hour private lessons for $25, group rate for the hour lesson is $5 off each participant. We provide lessons for the beginner through advanced rider, focusing on the importance of a correct seat for successful communication with your horse. Whether you prefer Western or English disciplines, we will help you communicate clearly with the horse for balanced and collected movement. Some people call this 'centered riding' and some call it 'biomechanics,' we call it solid horsemanship. We provide lessons on our horses or you can load in.

For those starting out in horse riding, we will provide you instruction on horse care, grooming, haltering and leading a horse. We will show you how to tack up, and we will discuss the horse's structure and the biomechanics of riding. We want you to learn the cues for riding, when to apply them and why they work. Under saddle you will learn how to balance upon your horse and communicate with your horse through your hands, seat and legs. We will provide you training in walk, trot and canter in an arena setting and then move outside of the arena for more challenge.

For the intermediate student who currently rides and wants to expand their ability, we will further develop your seat with balance and agility exercises. You can learn flying lead changes, dressage patterns or how to jump - anything is possible once you have confidence in your seat. Since 1989 I have specialized in working with youth and amateur riders. I started my career riding Western horses with my speciality being All Around/versatility and Trail (show) . During my college years I delved into the world of showing hunter jumpers and there I would spend the next 20+ years showing and competing. 2020 marked my path back into the Western world.
I operate a small lesson barn with a very minimal number of boarders and minimal number of training horses at any one time. If you are interested in training or tune ups, please be aware there my be a waiting list. Lessons are 45$ per hour for most riders. Walk/trot riders 6-8 $35 (30-45 min) Youth 6 and under (leadline) are 30$/ half hour. As of 2022 we will offer video/remote lessons. With a strong emphasis on safetyand solid basics.
