My new project, Nickers for Clickers Training Academy Horse Camp for Kids is now launched, and will be a whole summer of horse training FUN!

Youth ages 9 to 15 welcome ~ bring lunch with you ~ no more than 8 campers per week
Relaxed, peaceful atmosphere: most of our time will be focused on the basics of reward-based training for horses, inviting horses to participate at their discretion
Building a foundation that will last a lifetime: we’ll dive into horse behavior, horse care, and horse body language to better understand horses
Lots of horse time: campers will have opportunities to train horses every day, always under supervision
Dream big! Everyone will be encouraged to pick one behavior they want to train by the end of the week
Planning for contingencies: we’ll make shaping plans, measure progress toward goals and learn what to do when the training doesn’t go as expected
Learning should be fun: We’ll play games in which kids can take turns being the learner and the teacher, and discuss the differences between learning and teaching a new skill
Emphasis on safety: we’ll prioritize safety in all interactions with horses, demonstrating how to handle horses responsibly and with care
Life skills building in progress: campers will be guided toward learning patience, empathy, and communication skills
Fun without riding: many kids understand that riding is not the only way to appreciate these magnificent animals. Now they have a whole camp dedicated to all the other amazing things horses bring to the table!
Experts in charge: Emily Osborne Petrichor, owner and sole operator of Heart of Riding, LLC will be running the camp every day. Only select helpers who are knowledgeable and skilled in reward based training will be assisting. Emily has a long history of working with kids and horses in a horse camp setting as well as numerous certifications in teaching methodologies. Feel free to ask about Emily’s range and depth of expertise!
Campers will be asked to bring water, sunscreen and bug repellent, as well as a bag lunch. Clothing recommendations: light clothing similar to hiking gear would be best. Long sleeve shirts and pants made of very light material help keep bugs away and reduce the need to reapply sunscreen, while keeping us cool. A broad brimmed hat will keep the sun off the face and neck. Closed-toe shoes are standard around horses for safety reasons, ideally they would be somewhat waterproof in case we have rain/mud, but that isn't essential.
Campers will be provided with a clicker, a treat pouch, and plenty of reinforcers to carry out the training with the horses each day. They will also receive a pen and small notebook to record data / take notes if they choose to do so. We will be referencing several textbooks, but campers will not need to purchase those unless they would like to have their own copy at home. I can provide links to booksellers with that information at any time.

North Windsor Farm LLC offers lessons for ages 5 and up beginner through advanced, as well as horse training. We are accepting new students for the Winter 2021 season! We are conveniently located at 139 Locktown Rd in Flemington NJ on a quiet road just off Route 12. Our horses are the best of the best as far as safety; they have done it all. Lessons are typically 1 hour and are tailored to each rider's experience. We do not jip rider's time on the horse. We also do evening lessons to accommodate those getting out of school and work. Chrissy began riding hunter/jumper as a young child and learned from many different instructors and horse trainers growing up. As a teen she worked with her sister taking care of 40 horses, many just broke and inexperienced, and she would teach them the basics and to jump. She would ride from sun up to sun down learning from the horses. She also rode with the University of Delaware Equestrian Team for 4 years. She has always gravitated towards working with troubled horses and spent several years as Assistant trainer at a farm that specialized in retraining the unfixables. As an instructor & now in her 30s, she is known for being attentive, patient, encouraging and listening to students. Ascend Equestrian was founded on the principle of family, friends, and providing a safe environment in which to learn and have fun. We focus on building a well-rounded horseperson by not only teaching students to ride, but also providing lessons in horsemanship, sportsmanship and showmanship. It is with this focus that we build successful riders who are competitive both at the local and national levels and contenders at national finals year after year.

Ascend Equestrian offers a comprehensive lesson program for children and adults ages 6 and up, from beginner to advanced levels. Our lesson program features small classes with no more than four riders in a lesson at a time, scheduled according to age and level, providing individualized quality instruction for all riders. In order to provide a safe environment that is conducive to learning, there are never more than five clients riding in the arena at a time, a feature that is unique to our training program.

Beginner riders start off in a private lesson to learn the basics of steering, controls, and position, before progressing to a semi-private lesson. Lessons are grouped according to level, age and height jumping in order to maximize progress.

Our lesson times are as follows:

Private Lessons- 30 minutes
Semi Private with 2 riders- 45 minutes
Semi Private with 3-4 riders- 1 hour

In addition to time spent in the saddle, riders should plan to spend an additional 30-45 minutes before their lesson and 30 minutes to an hour after their lesson grooming, tacking, bathing, grazing, and caring for their horses. Initially, this process will be guided by one of our instructors or working students, with the goal of creating independent knowledgeable horsewomen and men who can care for their own mounts.

We offer several safe, quality school horses of all sizes, skills, and levels from beginner to advanced. We treat our school horses like our top show horses, providing for the best possible experience for our riders on horses that are happy, healthy and ready to perform their best for their lessons. Our school horses are never ridden more than 5 days per week and not more than once per day and have access to the same top care provided to our show horses.

We invite new clients to schedule an evaluation lesson to meet our horses and instructors and learn just how fabulous our lesson program is. This evaluation lesson also serves as an opportunity for our trainers to assess our new clients’ riding and ensure that we can provide the best possible horse and lesson suitable to their needs and goals. After the initial evaluation lesson, riders are required to sign up for a minimum of one lesson per week in order to continue in our program.

Taylor is originally from North Carolina. At the age of four, she started riding horses and by age six she was doing low level barrel jackpots to compete at on weekends. Her love for horses stemmed from there and she learned everything she could from anyone and every horse she could ride or work with!

Taylor began training and colt starting around the age of fifteen with the help of her own trainer until she ventured off by herself to start training for various clients. She eventually went on to compete in and out of state state barrel racing competitions until she turned seventeen. At that point, she focused more on training and flipping horses.

Her love is not just for barrel racing, but also for pole bending, trail riding, colt starting, and restart projects! The most gratifying part of Taylor’s passion is not only helping owners/riders build confidence and skill but also their horses. I’ve been teaching horsemanship to beginner-advanced riders, barrel racing and pole bending, English and jumping, and offering trail rides to the public for 20 plus years. I also break and train horses. I offer these services on my horse or yours.

Sam has been riding horses for 8 years. He started taking lessons but quickly realized it was a passion for him so he began volunteering as help for riding camps. At that point he met an AQHA professional horseman and started riding under him everyday learning everything he could. Sam was one of the Top 100 youth point earners in the nation in 2018 for AQHA Western Pleasure Shows. After some time, he also started training and breaking horses for clients with his mentor’s guidance .
